Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 09:27:25 I recently purchased Homeworld (Game of the year edition) and after installing it, the moment I tried to start the game it would give a pop up stating ' invalid or no cd present'.
Now I tried this installation on 2 different XP machines with the same results. Today, I installed it on a win 98 machine and everything works. So, all you propeller head Homeworld veterans, help me get this working on an xp machine.

Posted - Nov 04 2004 : 08:10:54 Lol Bif. I'm afraid I wont be on tonight until much later because tonight is rehersal night for Church music for Sunday. So you may sit there and scratch until I turn up, but Friday is probably a better bet.
Last night, Ginko and Vicious got me into a tutorial type game and unfortunately Vicious was a little hard on GINK which didn't go down to well with Gink. Anyways, I'm sure all will be ok. I'm still very 'green' when it comes to adjusting to HW1, it's going to take quite a few training sessions I think before I become a challenge to anyone. See you soon.

Posted - Nov 04 2004 : 06:13:20 Maybe it was 1.05 then. All I know was that I downloaded it and it works lol... No Fuddy we did not set a time for wed as I have church but did not make it because I have bite bumps from some kind of little ant all over me. Looks like large hives but they are bites and itch like crazy... I will be on Thursday around 8 pm EST until around midnight or so. Will look for you then. I will teach you what I know and then we can play some 2v2 See you later tonight.... |

Thanks Nuke Em, I thought 1.05 was for the retail version... to bad 1.06 never made it to Retail, it was a good patch. |

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 18:33:30 Um.
Version 1.05 is the up to date retail version. 1.06 is Raiders Retreat. Bifoccal, I'm not sure how you could be running 1.04 and playing on WON. |

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 17:25:21 Thats correct Bif. Patch 1.04 allows you to put the cd in any drive. Now that I've got it working, where are you??????? Didn't we pre-arrange a Wednesday evening tutorial/scrim?

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 14:32:56 1.04 is what I used and I have XP service pack 2 and everything runs fine now..... |

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 10:31:31 Then again... it could be as simple as that.
Use the 1.05 patch....or wait, that was Raider Retreat. |

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 10:26:11 Actually, I've just read something on patch 1.04 that says in using this patch, the cd can be placed in ANY drive. Does this mean that previous versions required the CD to be drive E: or it would not see it on startup?
I'm going to try this patch this evening and see if it fixes the problem.

Posted - Nov 03 2004 : 10:20:08 Are you running service pack 2?
Not that I know if that would or would not be the matter, but I suspect that if the Anti-Piracy software HW1 used hooked into the system by a way SP2 fixed, well... it makes sense that SP2 broke the Anti-piracy protection. |
