There is a honored Veterans day... I think there should be an honored OMO day!

What Other story would Vietnam be???
BackPainOMO Posted - Nov 12 2004 : 10:27:14
Growing up in an Army family, Veterans Day was always a big occasion. The Army would set up displays and tanks that people, civilians and dependents alike, could crawl all over and around inside and a big BBQ (free) was there for everyone.

Now, out in the civilian world, it seems Veterans Day is more a nuisance than anything else to people. It is a day they have to work but their kids have off and special arrangements have to be made...yada yada yada.

The current war is slowly bringing the oblivious civilian world back to an understanding and appreciation that had been forgotten, and for a time despised, for the military. I served 5 years 3 months in the USCG (yup, I'm a Mud Duck) because I wanted to give to my country. Bless all that have served, living and dead, serving and inactive. I would offer special thanks to those that have served and still bear the scars, mental and physical, to their service.

Festus, they are heros. If not for them we would not be free. Next time you talk to them tell them that I am so grateful. What we did in Nam is minimized by what they went through. Well except for the coming home part but let's not get into that today.
Festus-OGO Posted - Nov 11 2004 : 19:49:01
Its interesting that the older you get, the more you appreciate what these people gave up for our future.

My wife and I always take the time to explain it to our kids, goto ceremonies, and call their grandparents and tell them "thank you"

Want to do something wonderful? Leading upto Rememberance Day, when you see a Veteran, be sure to buy a poppy from them, ask them about what they did, and shake their hand and THANK THEM. Not enough people do.

FYI.... I never served in the armed forces, but my father and father-in-law did in WW II.

Bifocal, the words are coming out of your mouth but they are mine. This day is one that makes me proud and at the same time overwhelms me with sorrow. So many good men, well boys actually, too many children who have Heros for fathers. Hard day to get through for many of us.
Bifocal-OMO Posted - Nov 11 2004 : 17:45:07
The Only HEROS are the ones that did not make it back the rest of us are just Veterans that will not let them forget the Ones that did not make it back. Or the ones that were taken and never found. To them
I salute and remember.

To all the OMO that served and fought Welcome Home and You are remembered.

Happy Veterans Day "OMO"
After reading Dk Kings Post, Im speechless! Amen.
DK King Arthur Posted - Nov 11 2004 : 17:19:59
To all the hero's who have served to protect you respective countries, Thank you. You honor us with your courage.

To my brothers who gave their lives, gave their futures and stood by my side I want to say, I will never forget the struggles. I will never forget the nights we spent huddled taking care of our wounds. I will never forget the dark quiet nights sitting on the perimeter of the camps knowing that my only concern was protecting your lives while you slept so you could then protect mine. I will never forget our love for each other. I am so sorry I couldn't save just one of you so you could have enjoyed the next 30 years as I have complete with the freedom many take way too lightly. The price was high. Some day the price of freedom will no longer be Blood.

NEVER FORGET

In Flannder's Fields is a great poem. Memorized it a long time ago...

Cheers to all the OMO who have served and serve. Thank you for the sacrifices you made and make. May the ideals of freedom you fought for endure.
