Posted - Nov 21 2003 : 20:09:05 I'm sure most of you have seen this on other forums but for the rest of you, "MEKTEK Expansion Pack is out!!"
So far I have just tried some of the new mechs and weapons in solo mode and they seem very interesting.
Aged, Don't get upset but they messed with the Uller again.
Here is a run down of the new additions/modification. From NBT Mektek Xpack page :
Ares - 60 ton, Clan - The Ares Clan Omnimech is a deadly new Omnimech being fielded by Clan Jade Falcon. The Ares was designed to win trials as well as battles, and so it excels at duels. Strangely enough, the Nova Cats captured the prototype during a trial of possession, and are currently manufacturing the Ares (called the Lion by Nova Cat warriors) at their main factory on Irece.
* BAP, JJ's, LAMS, EO, 80kph Base * RA - 2B, 3E * CT - 2O * LA - 2B, 3E * MR - 3M
Blood Asp - 90 ton, Clan - First created by Clan Star Adder as an insult to their enemies, Clan Blood Spirit, the Blood Asp is a capable Omnimech able to mount a large number of heavy weapons, such as the ERPPC or the CGauss. The heavy weapons load an extensive electronics make it a match for any other assault 'mech in production.
* ECM, BAP, LAMS, 42kph Base * RA - 3E, 2O * RT - 1E * RG - 3B * CT - 2M * LA - 3E, 2O * LT - 1E * LG - 3B
Urbanmech IIC - 30 ton, Clan - The Clan version of the Inner Sphere Urbanmech. The Clan version is faster, but cannot carry as large a weapons load as the Urbanmech.
* ECM, JJ's, LAMS, EO, 52kph * RA - 3E * RT - 1O * LT - 1O * LA - 2B, 1E
Avatar - 70 ton, IS Omni - The Avatar is patterned after Vulture Omnimechs recovered after the Battle of Luthien in the Draconis Combine. While maintaining a resemblance to its parent design, the Avatar is 10 tons heavier, slower and tends to carry a more diverse mix of weapons than a Clan 'mech.
* BAP, JJ's, LAMS, AG, 63.60 kph Base * RA - 3O * RT - 2M * CT - 2E * LT - 2M * LA - 2B, 3E
Marauder - 75 ton, IS - First developed near the end of the First Star League, the Marauder served with distinction throughout the Succession Wars between the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere. Partially redesigned with recovered technology just before the Clan invasion, this 'mech mouts multiple direct fire weapons such as PPC's, Lasers and Autocannon's.
* BAP, LAMS, 65kph Base * RA - 4E * LA - 4E * LT - 2E * BR - 2E * DG - 4B
Strider - 40 ton, IS Omni - Another Omnimech created by the Draconis Combine. The Strider is a fast 'mech that works best countering other fast 'mechs or performing "Hit and Run" attacks on slower 'mechs with its missiles.
* BAP, LAMS, IFF, 78kph Base * RA - 2E * RT - 3M * CT - 2O * LT - 3M * LA - 2E
Stalker - 85 ton, IS - This battle proven Inner Sphere Battlemech carries a mix of large and medium lasers along with LRM's and SRM's. This heavy weapon load is capable of tearing apart an enemy 'mech with ease, but all the weapons come with the cost of low heat dissipation.
* ECM, LAMS, AG, 41kph Base * RA - 4E * RT - 2M * MRR - 2M * CT - 4B, 2E * MRL - 2M * LT - 2M * LA - 4E
Urbanmech - 30 ton, IS - Looking like a trash can with legs, this 'mech is a specialty design intended for urban combat. While slow on the ground, this 'mech mounts jump jets that give it good mobility, and allow it to use its suprisingly heavy weapons to good effect.
* ECM, JJ's, LAMS, IFF, 52kph Base * RA - 4B * RT - 1E * CT - 1E * LT - 1E * LA - 1B, 1E
Warhammer - 70 ton, IS - This 'mech has been been in use for centuries by militaries throughout the Inner Sphere and beyond. Carrying a diverse array of weapons featuring a pair of PPC's, this 'mech is able to engage enemy 'mechs at all ranges equally. It is a little slow compared to some newer designs, but its heavy armor more than makes up for its lower speed.
* BAP, LAMS, IFF, 65kph Base * RA - 4E * RT - 2B, 1E * MR - 2M * LT - 2B, 1E * LA - 4E

Posted - Nov 24 2003 : 14:12:08 nice link.
The Strider may well become my nuisance mech of choice. I have a nice flamer version for it. |
| CanadianBiB |
Posted - Nov 24 2003 : 13:15:19 The Strider is the Wrath of God in a 40-ton chassis. Oh my lord... what a beast. Two Large Lasers and a RAC2 is probably my favourite "HAHA ANNOY" 'Mech now (replacing the flaming Wolfie)... all hail the Strider. I wrote a little 'how Tuna sees the 'mechs' review on another forum... so for no apparent reason, here we go.
Ares: Wow... it's a mini version of the CB, simply put. Fast bastard too, its min. speed being the mid 80s. It's flexible, and its weapons are spread out nicely. It can carry many gizmos as well. Armour's a little thin, and its arms are massive. I give it a 8.5/10.
Avatar: Sucks. Just plainly sucks. It's a big, fat, slow, 70-ton target. Sure it has omni.. but what doesn't these days? However... it makes a decent Light Gauss Sniper, but I could fit the same on an Uziel. 4/10.
Blood Asp: Niiiiiice... the thing about the Clan assaults was, there wasn't a very good brawler in there aside from teh Kodiak at 100 tons. The Blood Asp fills the role of the brawler very nicely. It has decent armour, but is slow. It has the speed upgrades similar to the Atlas. It's also an overstuffed sofa. But... aside from that... helluva lot of RAWR. It can mount twin 3-slot ballistic and twin 3-slot energy at the same time (2 CLBX20 2 ERPPC anyone?) or the CLBX60 one-two punch we all know and love. And for no apparent reason, why not mount a SMRM20 in the CT. It's good, and it's speed keeps it from being broken. weee. 9/10.
Marauder: Sadly, I don't like the big M. It's nose is massive... like a Madkitties. Works the same way as well... fast.... good armour... but easy to maim if you're not careful. It packs a nice punch, though. A massive amount of energy slots followed up by a meanacing 4-slot Ballistic cannon thingy on it's back. I personally like 2 CAPPC and a Heavy Gauss to maim things from a distance. Or 2 PPC and 2 LBX10. Meh, 7/10, but it all depends on your playing style for this one.
Stalker: Christ... this thing is massive. Everything about it is big. The slots, the chassis itself, everything. It's surprisingly manuverable (I guess since it lacks arms?)... I tried the CBT config of 2 PPC, 1 Heavy Gauss, 2 Med Lasers and 2 Med Pulse Lasers... ouch. I dunno... 7.5/10. It's just too big...
The Urbies: Long live the killer trashcans! I personally prefer the IS one over the Clan version... it's the only Light 'Mech that can carry a Heavy Gauss Rifle. Slow as hell, but able to leap... c'mon.. who DOESN'T luff the urbie? 1337/10.
Warhammer: Niiiiiice... I think. It's an odd layout, but it has massive promise. Good speed, not too many electronics though... I guess since it's old... but hey, it got the job done for me. It strikes me as a support 'Mech really... the IS Vulture. Doesn't make the best brawler. 6/10.
I'm sorry I wasted your time with that... he's a funny link to make up for it. http://www.mycathatesyou.com/ |

One ERL, a rocket launcher, and Hyper AC; you can pump up it's speed quite a bit. I used it in one match to wreck havoc on the other teams assualt. A lot of them turned their attention on my strider leaving the larger mechs on the team I was on to regain ground. We won in the end - but I died 6-1. |
