Hello all,
First I'd like to take a moment to let you know what's been going on within FASA studio. We're currently wrapping up production for Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge for Xbox, I know these souped-up aircraft are not Battlemechs, but I'm sure fans of the Crimson Skies universe won't be disappointed. We've also been busy providing our Xbox Live fans with new MechAssault downloadable content.
Over the past few months there has been plenty of speculation, email, and pleas for information regarding the future of the PC MechWarrior franchise, namely MechWarrior 5. Although an exceptional effort was made by an extremely creative and talented development team, we have decided not to continue the development of the project at this time. There were several factors in this decision, but most prevalent was our concern that we were not advancing the genre enough to meet and exceed our customer's expectations. Please know that this was a very difficult decision, but one we felt was in the best interests of our customers.
We deeply love the MechWarrior franchise, and are committed to keeping it alive. Our plan is to re-invent MechWarrior in a way that brings a fresh experience to our devoted customers and new fans alike. We would like to thank all of you for your continued support of the MechWarrior 4 series of games, and greatly appreciate all the feedback we've received on our games. We are intensely focused on delivering outstanding game experiences, and rest assured we are working feverishly on some wonderful next-generation games.
Regards, Von ~

Posted - Apr 09 2003 : 15:59:21 Actually WizKids picked up the Battletech universe, and jumped it 15-20 years. I just started the first novel, and it's an interesting read. Might want to check out the new universe...

Posted - Mar 26 2003 : 11:54:21 Well, considering I don't own a TV, I don't plan to purchase one just for the honor of owning an X-Pox.
I think I might be able to find a bundle of TA somewhere, but honestly, I don't have time for it: I just got Galactic Civilizations. |

Posted - Mar 25 2003 : 17:15:40 The game came out in '97 (maybe '96). Cavedog (the developer) released new units, maps, tilesets on about every month. It was a great game - far better than Starcraft in my opinion. Later they released an expansion (Core Contingency) that added tons of additional units, maps and tilesets. It's a must have expansion. Still later, they released another expansion (Battle Tactics) - no new units, a few new maps. It's not very necessary. The only reason I got it was occassionally you'd see one of the Battle Tactics maps on Galactic Wars.
Cavedog also had a dedicated online service for MP called the Boneyards. You could play ladders, practice, ffa's, etc. and the aforementioned Galactic Wars metagame.\
Prior to the release of Homeworld, I was pretty much a regular there.
Here's the original TA website (which somehow still works even though Cavedog hasn't been in business for quite a while.

Posted - Mar 25 2003 : 11:55:28 thanks for the link aged. it was kind of interesting to see my old persona still in the old boneyards ladder.
by the way, thanks for the offer of your spare, but you may need it for when we get arcane interested... |

You might want to download the Phoenixworks Phoenixworks client too. It basically, recreates the Boneyards (and a little bit more).
...and if I'd known you were looking for CC, I could've given you a copy. I have 2. |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 23:11:36 well, i picked up a copy of core contingency on ebay today, with my old ta, that would mean that aged and i can find a time and play total annihilation. |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 14:32:43 From what I hear, yes. But by the time I heard about it, all the copies (used or new) were gone.
BUT. My personal all time favorite in the shooter camp is Decent 3. Could not customize the ships as you could the mechs, but it had enough variety to keep it very fun. Until someone hacked a way to swap the firerate for a Vaus Cannon for a Mass Driver (major owies). Because Interplay dropped the game it stopped being supported and thus was not patched for that exploit. . |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 13:32:55 Heavy Gear III would be cool, but it's been awhile since II came out. I wonder if there's still any interest there.
I played the original and thought it was pretty good. I never played II, but it seemed to get pretty good reviews. Was that an Activision game? |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 11:42:46 Like Aged said: MW5 is dead. As far as I know, MS doesn't let things out of it's orbit even when it is dead. Henrya: expect another game like to pop-up and the company sued by MS if it is sucessful. Maybe someone will comeback with a Heavy Gear III that works. . |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 07:23:53 Not very likely. Microsoft owns the rights. I expect it'll show up as Mechassault 2 (X-box) and an eventual movie tie-in for the PC when the Mechwarrior movie is released. |

Posted - Mar 24 2003 : 02:07:19 this is bad news, expect mech-warrior to appear under a new name, and the new game to come out from somewhere else. It's a great title, but the game is better ! |
