Posted - Jan 28 2003 : 14:28:14 That's right boys and girls, It's me and I'm back. I haven't had any time to get online to play games, but I will try to keep up with the new forum. I like what you guys have done with the place.
I don't know what you guys are playing anymore, but I remember someone mentioning O.R.B., before I go out and spend my hard earned chicken feed, is it worth it and are you guys going to play it awhile or is it just another fad.
Love to hear from you guys.
Pappy (AKA Calvin)
As for who initiated me and when, God, that was a while back almost 2 years maybe more.
But here's joggin' the old brain pan.
It was Silverback if he is still around. Also I believe that Aged, CatScan, Medicare, and TitanumHip were also there. Made it look like teams in HW then you all turned on me, held my own for a while then got the monkey spanked out of me. |

Posted - Feb 04 2003 : 12:05:57 Depends on the terrain and the config of my mech if I do that. If you remember in MW4 I used a Daishi model I referred to as the Gunslinger. It was slow but maxed out with CLBX10/20's and would stagger fire to keep them from getting a bead on me. Worked quite effectivly in Urban maps, not too good on open terrain. Open terrain, I use my Sniper model with 4-5 Light Guass. Same principle, pound one section of armour til I get a good hole. Key point of a good sniper is to take the one shot then relocate. To many, Take a Shot and duck down, then come back up in the same position. Also helps tactics when Sun Tzu's Art of War was required reading. |

Posted - Feb 04 2003 : 11:41:10 Whew glad it wasn't you!! I'd think that a marine wouldn't charge straight into the line of fire unless he HAD to (as the false Pappy did.) |

Posted - Feb 04 2003 : 11:04:11 Wasn't me. I always use the -OMO name attachment on our games. Doesn't bother me yet. If an Impostor shows up with the -OMO tag, let me know so I can hunt down and kill the bastard. :) |

Posted - Feb 04 2003 : 10:01:49 Kinda figured that. I'm going to try to get on Homeworld this weekend, maybe HW:C.
Let me know where most of you will be hanging out this weekend and I'll try to link up. That is if I can get the wife off the puter for a while. |

Posted - Feb 03 2003 : 14:27:17 I thought that was the norm for initiations. We did the same to Festus and a few others, if my brain is retrieving the data correctly. |

I personally like the SP. Although it does start out a little "slow", the story line is good and the overall progression is about right for "newbs" like myself. I believe that I have progressed to the end of the Malus campaign.
There is a lot to like about this game from my perspective. It isn't as fast paced as a lot of the other RTS. That is until you get into furballs. The graphics are pretty nice, especially when you crank up it up. I'm running a P3 933Mhz with a GF3. I have 1600x1200x32 (24b Z buffer) with max on all the config options. It runs very smooth and looks really good. Which makes it all the more annoying that I seem to have to set some of the options every damn time I run the game.
There are some things that need to be fixed but for me they are not game stoppers. I'm pleased with my purchase (which is rare lately).
Will this win over the hardcore HW crowd? Most likely not. I do think that there is some real potential here for very good MP games. Given the map and the setup you could have classic HW style battles or long drawn out engagements. I really like the rotating asteroid belts (only a couple of SP missions seem to have them). It can really require a change in your tactics. All that is moot until they fix the broken netcode though. I would also like to see dedicated servers.
The SP game has been extremely fun for me. The AI can be tricked (like fighter dragging - where you take fast fighters in to catch the AI's attention then drag it all over the map) but overall it is on par with HW or HW:C. Setting the behavior of your units is extremely flexible and very powerful. The missions are well thought out, IMHO. I've noticed that some folks are really pissed about how hard some of the missions are... and I'm normally one of those folks. In this case, I've had a difficult time on a couple of missions but that is because my "head" wasn't right. Once I started to think about the problem, the missions were much easier. The Malus mission 9 is a real bugger if you take the wrong "path".
The SP ride has been worth the $40.
The general concensus in the chat seemed to be that if you wanted to complete a MP game you needed to do a 1:1.
I'm torn over recommending this game. On one hand I see the vast potential. On the other, I see the need for a patch (or two) to reach it. SP has been a blast but I realize that most of you rarely play the SP game. If that is the case then this game is not ready for you yet. |

Posted - Jan 28 2003 : 18:18:43 Oh now Festus..... You can run, but you can't hide.
You forget your talking to the Marine of the group. I can track you guys from one end of the web to the other. :)
Ok I get the picture that ORB should have actually been named DUNG Software
D. UN. G. Software = Disgraceful UNorganized Grabasstic Software
For those of you who bought it, I only have 1 question. We already know that they F@cked you in the ass, my only question is, did they give you the common decency of a reach around?? |

Posted - Jan 28 2003 : 15:01:53 Don't buy ORB. It has serious multi problems that they say there going to patch and havn't so far. Some of us are playing Impossible creatures, quite a few are still playing HW, some are playing mercinaries(Mec Warrior newest volume) and some are driving in circles
Peace
