As I have posted in the members section, I have Call of Duty 4 but my HD and vid card are not up to the challenge.

The drive I can handle.

I am at least two years out of touch in video cards though... and that may as well be a decade in that category.

HELP ME!

I have a P4 3 Ghz CPU and...

Motherboard - ASUS P5ND2-SLI Deluxe ...

CPU LGA775, Chipset nForce4 SLI-Intel edition, PCI-Ex1 2 slots, PCI-Ex16 2 slots, PCI 3 slots, LAN 2xGb, 1394 2.

64 bit OS compatible, and Precision Tweaking allows me to overclock from a console... CPU, memory, PCI-Express and front side bus can all be overclocked step by step.


The above is from when I posted about the rig last upgrade.


So now non-members can chime in on whether it will be better for me to ....

A: Buy another 6800 and Sli with older tech(cheapest option)

B: Buy two newer but inexpensive cards and SLI.

C: Buy one uber-card and allow the dust to continue to collect in my SLI slot.


I would LIKE to keep this adventure under $300 if at all possible. Knowing me as I do, you guys will have the power to increase that amount by some sort of freakish rationalization.

It is done. A few pennies short of $800 including all tax and shipping. Arrives by Friday, will be installed on Saturday.

Case, video card of doom, two drives, and a heck of a deal on a monitor.

I liked the 150 Raptors but could not possibly spend any more. I wanted RAID/data striping more than the size. The new 300 gig VelociRaptors are out now anyway.

In a few months I am going to upgrade my 550 watt power supply do accommodate the second 9800 vid card in SLI, and then I may get the 150 raptors. The new VRaptors will have been out long enough to drop the 150's price. Two 36s and two 150s(if I can raid drives of differing size) in RAID4 should be a smokin' system. Not sure about data striping and all, but this Saturday I am sure to learn quickly. My PC guy will perform the upgrade with me at his shop so I get a warranty and knowledge while getting back into the guts of my machine. If the drives have to be the same size I will continue to stack 36s. :)


And to think it all started with me deciding to play with you old coots again, and then buying COD4...


The most expensive $40 I ever spent. LMAO

P.S. Now that the system is almost there, Crysis is on my list. The MW mod for that is coming along nicely.

I like Samsung LCDs, but they're $40 more. I agree with Expired on the size of your drives. I have a 76G Raptor and constantly move stuff to keep enough swap space available. I just bought the 150G Raptor for my new Vista install.

Inexpensive award-winner.

I have never had an LCD. Are those good specs for the price?

What am I looking for in an LCD? Contrast ratio? Response Time?

All I know is I was used to my 19" going 1600x1200 and I see no LCDs making it to that realm.

Help an ignorant old man understand. :)

Yeah Expired I was wondering the same thing about the fans. My PC guy and almost all the revues seem to indicate that they have great airflow. Adding the third fan in the side will help a lot too I am sure. I am going to start over-clocking soon, so I will be looking closely at airflow and heat buildup.

Looks good Bluehair. The only thing I dont like about the case is the 80mm front fan. Most 80mm are noisy and don't push enough air. The new 8800 and 9800 series vid cards put out a lot of heat and need good flow thru ventilation. I am using the Raptors and love them if I had it to do over again I would have went for the 150 Gigs.

I agree with Spec. 8800 series it the best vid card series to come out in a long time.

At the prices the 8800GTS are going for, your wasting your time and money buying anything else.

Also, 9600 is considerably slower then 8800. Don't let the numbers fool you. Hate the way nvidia list their video cards.

Do you have SATA for connecting the harddrive?

What size is your power supply? You'll need at least a 450W for this card.

An 8800GTS with a G92 chip is a good deal still. One of those will make COD4 sing. $239.99

The 9800 cards are basically 8800's (still a G92 chip) with 'power down' options.

You may want to look at upgrading your CPU too. I think Catheter has a similar CPU.
