Whoever can make sense of this g33ksp33k, please help me.

My motherboard supports all sorts of overclocking tweaks, but I want to get a good baseline before I start on that adventure.

Awww I am in the AoC open beta and having a blast so far, come on and join us it should beat out WOW. Just check out the AoC threads and see what you think it could be fun.
Arcane Posted - May 11 2008 : 01:13:05
Now that's a good question Bypass. I just finished STALKER and I was impressed. I was thinking I had a really good time with it and thought I might try my hand at COD4 but I'm not sure. I've been doing a lot of retro gaming too... Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, Homeworld 2 and 2 or 3 mods, oh... Sins of a Solar Empire, hmmm Race 07 but my steering wheel just broke...

*laughs*

I don't know to tell the truth. My system is getting pretty long in the tooth and I have stuff to buy for the house this summer so I'll likely have to keep what I have for now. My son has given me a gift certificate that I'm supposed to use for Age of Conan but I'm not sure if I'm going to go that route or not.

Arcane you old dog just look in the politics thread to see Aged in action. I have even posted there for the first time and its been a very civil discussion now when and what game can we expect to see you playing soon?
SkidiMark-OMO Posted - May 10 2008 : 10:28:40
Wow, the 'A's are back, it is like old home week!!

Hi Aged, and Arcane
Expired-OMO Posted - May 10 2008 : 09:54:06
I don't care for RAID and think it's a little overrated as it is faster but at twice the chance of hard drive failure. As for SLI it's really good if you can afford two of the high end [$400] Nvidia cards because tests have shown that one high end vid card will out perform two mid range cards in most cases.
BluehairOMO Posted - May 10 2008 : 04:08:03

OWO OMO Aged and Arcane! Long time no see.

Thanks for the input all.

Aged you have me drooling and wondering what 7-11 to rob now with those links. LOL

I like that list Medi, but the mobo does not support RAID and doesn't have SLI capability apparently(according to reviews I read).

If I eat nothing but PBJs at lunch for a few weeks I may be able to to take action.

Heres a very fast setup. I know, its mine.
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=7518511

And for the money you cant beat it. Benchmarks bear out the 4 core advantage in all aspects of gaming. Review this chart as an example...

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/intel-skulltrail-part-3,1770-20.html

Why spend more? With your GTX and this setup count on zero game issues for years. I personally just popped the 3 parts in rebooted and waited for about 15 min for XP to load drivers automaticly. Restarted with the new drivers for the mobo and viola im playing COD4 with a new system. Took an hour. Very reliable feeling system. Add watercooling for around $150 and its an overclocking to over 3.4 monster, benching right up there with 1000 dollar chips. Mine is set to 3 ghz all day every day and runs under 48C in all situations. In a cool room ive played COD4 at 34C for hours.
In a hot room its topped at 48C.

Overclocking requires lots of cool air. Ive looked for a price/performance ratio anyone can afford and finally found it..http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16811119152 Ill have one soon myself. Great ariflow and the PSU is at the bottom where it belongs, out of the heat.

Feel free to research it because the price/performance ratio here is optimum.

It looks like your present mobo supports DDR2 memory so you may not have to upgrade that. Unfortunately that probably the cheapest parts. Approx $100.00 for 2Gigs of RAM

Stick with a Dual Core CPU as there is nothing out there that takes advantage of quad core technology. An E8200 will put you back in the hunt. approx $200.00

The EVGA 750i SLI FTW seems to be a good board to upgrade to with plenty of overclocking options and relatively cheap for all the features _ $200.00
BluehairOMO Posted - May 08 2008 : 19:47:13

ARG!! I JUST spent $800 on video, hard drives, monitor, and case... and that board, RAM and CPU are less than two years old.

Not to mention that the game I did all this for... COD4... has NO flying or commanding(only things I was good at in BF2), runs at unreal tourney speeds, and I can't even play with the OMO on that hardcore server until I learn the maps.

<<< runs screaming from room ....

-----------------

I will price mobos, CPUs and RAM soon, but massive dental work and no insurance have dented my funds.

Myopic OMO Posted - May 08 2008 : 19:25:23
That board doesn't support anything newer then a P4 with HT. So it means a new board, cpu, and ram. Wish I had this problem, but I'm still running an AGP slotted board. :-(
medicated Posted - May 08 2008 : 19:18:52
close to the same score i had before the new mb/cpu/ram. mine was about 1000 lower than that overall. Its time for your upgrade to see over 10,000.
Dirtbag-OMO Posted - May 08 2008 : 18:38:27
Stings right. The CPU is the culprit. Look and see if your MB supports dual core.
Stingray Posted - May 08 2008 : 16:44:33
Your CPU is your biggest bottle neck, dual core would double your CPU score, not sure your mobo supports dual cores though.

Faster CPU means your video card would work faster as well, so those scores would go up as well.

In short, considering the MOBO/CPU combo, score doesn't surprise me.
