Some of you have been building systems for a number of years and I was wondering how you feel about EVGA motherboards. I've been using their video cards for some time now and have always had good luck with them.

Yea...I know.

Medicated, Newegg should include you in their advertising budget.

I've used Amazon for purchasing camping equipment,PC games and CD's. I also picked up my 5.1 headset from there. very reliable and usually have my stuff before their estimated ship date.
burniste Posted - Oct 09 2008 : 06:45:59
Petrified, like Bloody and Medicated said. maybe Amazon can beat them on price.
i "window" shop, then go to Newegg. 6 of my last 7 builds were from Newegg, and
i just picked up an 8gb thumbdrive smaller than, oh, your thumb, for $20.

if it's just the matter of taxes, then is Amazon pretty reliable?
Bloody Posted - Oct 09 2008 : 06:22:00
Yep, 100% agree that Newegg is much better than any other online PC parts store by far. I personally would pay up to 10 - 20 % more at Newegg, just cause I know they will be great on shipping, service and such.

I have had newegg overnight a replacement video card to me when I was due to leave for a lan tournament the next afternoon. They did it for free and sent a pack of 36 newegg stickers to hand out at the event. Ive built over 50 computers from the site and have not once had a complaint. The stellar service is the kicker for me. Even the deliveries are always early.

Another site is www.ubid.com Ive purchased tons of computer monitors over the last 7 years from there and they have always made me happy with their sometimes delayed customer support. You just have to watch out for high shipping rates on some items.

Ive purchased from Amazon several times too, but needed no support help.

That extra buck or 3 at the egg is ok with me. They have put me first and understood when I was in a bind. With a email from the customer service manager wishing me good luck at the match even. Yea, im hooked.

You should also cross reference Newegg's inventory prices with Amazon's. I find I can sometimes get the same hardware from Amazon for cheaper than from Newegg, but a large part of that has to do with Tax. I cheat by looking for hardware and it's accompanying reviews on Newegg then check to see if it is cheaper on Amazon.
medicated Posted - Oct 07 2008 : 22:10:02
You can trust the top rated motherboards at Newegg. Most of the buyers that review their purchases know what they are talking about. Also the Customer Choice Awards. Anything with that rating is top notch in happiness for the buyer with a little good luck. My personal favorites are Gigabyte and Biostar right now. They are the price/performance top buys with great reliability. Just follow the awards and you wont go wrong. But read the reviews! You can save a hundred bucks and get the same performance.

LOL, I like how Nosey said OMO Experts and BCO Geeks. ;)

And about DDR3, still expensive and really not that much faster (almost on equal speeds as DDR2 at same front side bus).
Rigormortis-OMO Posted - Oct 07 2008 : 12:50:22
I usually spend a fair amount of time checking parts on Newegg and then check other suppliers for a possible better price. And yes, DDR3 is still expensive.
Nosehair-OMO Posted - Oct 07 2008 : 06:00:21
Kool Rigs good luck with the build. My first build, almost a year ago now, went very smoothly with the help of the OMO experts and BCO geeks. I've got an ASUS mb and EVGA card. I'm real happy without touching the oc thing.
Specimen-OMO Posted - Oct 07 2008 : 05:41:46
That looks like a good board Rigs and EVGA has a good reputation of building solid stuff. Like Bloody said, check the customer reviews on Newegg for a better idea. Is the price of DDR3 memory still expensive?

Well since I haven't built or upgraded my game PC for over 24 months... it will by a Core i7 and X58 motherboard for me later this year... and a 4870 X2 I think. I should go from embarrassing back to healthy... man I've needed this upgrade. Now let's just hope no new yearly crisis comes along to change that.

I've always used ASUS and A-Bit... ASUS has been messing up the last year tho and I'm not sure if they are going to be my first choice this go around. I'm hoping that ASUS very public fight with Gigabit a couple months ago that made ASUS look pretty bad and potentially down right lairs... is behind them and their X58 boards are cream of the crop.

Thanks for the info guys. Gives me a few more things to consider. This board is the reason I asked. http://www.evga.com/articles/00431/

This will be my first build.

I think it was nvidia..although I get an ASUS logo when I boot up. I'm almost scared to death to mess with it..

Heart, what kind of sound card are you using?
On my ASUS mobo, I have to turn on the front panel plugs in the bios.

I've used ASUS for a long time now. No problems. I don't mess with overclocking, and I think that has a lot to do with it.
Expired-OMO Posted - Oct 06 2008 : 17:24:03
I agree about the touchness of Asus and switched to Abit, so far I am very happy with it.
