If you're curious this is what I went with:

I weighed my purchases based on a couple of things. budget, brand preference, and power consumption.

This is what I got:

Case: - looks cool
COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

PSU: - power consumption/brand preference
OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ700MXSP 700W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7

CPU: - performace/power consumption
Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler - price
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 92mm Fluid Dynamic CPU Cooler

Mobo: - performance/power consumption/brand preference
GIGABYTE GA-P55-UD5 LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM: 8GB - performance/price
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH - Retail

HD: performance/power consumption
Western Digital Caviar Green WD6400AACS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

O/S: performance/price
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders

I'll be pairing this up with my XFi Gamer sound card and my superclocked GTX 260.

should turn out pretty decent with low temps and lower power consumtion than my last rig.

I can run a whole lot more utilities. Win 7 loads up fast and It's a rock solid machine. I haveen't played any of teh COD's just yet but I imagine they'll be faster too. :) So yes I'm happy with my computer again.
Bedpan-OMO Posted - Nov 12 2009 : 18:17:35
So, what's the verdict Specimen? Like it? See any measurable difference?
Specimen-OMO Posted - Nov 09 2009 : 15:18:39
I was plating a little game called Torchlight. It's a single player but a lot of fun.
Geezer_OMO Posted - Nov 09 2009 : 10:34:57
Nice! We saw you on steam last night playing something else I will look for you. I have a meeting tonight so I won't be on until around 7:15 PST.
Specimen-OMO Posted - Nov 09 2009 : 09:29:11
Purchased it yesterday, I'll see if I can get on tonight. :)

Spec,
You need to get Shattered Horizons to see what your new system can handle. It is one of the reasons I bought it. Shattered Horizons is made by Futuremark which makes 3DMark. Hence, it is designed to give you some awesome graphics to test newer machines while playing a fantastic FPS. Your GTX 260 will run it fine and would be a good game to test drive your new build.

Congrats on your new build!

HEARTBURN-OMO Posted - Nov 06 2009 : 15:10:59
that's cool...you're going to crap in your pants when you get it up and running....you will wonder why you took so long...
Geezer_OMO Posted - Nov 06 2009 : 12:46:38
Good to hear. Let us know when its up and running. Have fun.
Specimen-OMO Posted - Nov 06 2009 : 12:19:45
Well got my parts in...they're at home and I'm at work.....
Will be building tomorrow.
Expired-OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 17:12:17
I have bought quite a lot from Newegg and have never been disapointed in them.
Specimen-OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:23:25
will do. Oh I also had to purchase a new DVD burner as I'm leaving my old machine as intact as possible. This is what I got...

Samsung SH-S223Q/BEBN Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL16X/12X Lightscribe DVD Writer SATA OEM - just like my last build, no IDE cables.

This is the first time I ordered from Newegg.ca so I am curious in how long it'll take to get the parts in. I'm hoping by next weekend I'll be putting it together.
Geezer_OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:16:31
They are very nice boards. I almost purchased one. I'll be interested in your CPU temps after your build. I am using a different heatsink. It will be nice to compare temps.
Specimen-OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:08:00
I wanted to try a Gigabyte board this time around. I've been reading good things about Gigabyte boards lately with power management and cooling. plus it was a combo deal with $35.00 bux off on the CPU and board. MSI is also a good make. It may make it on next build in about three years.
Geezer_OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 13:55:47
Looks good Spec. Thoughts:

Have you considered the MSI GD80? It is a very good 1156 board and is getting the nod for best MB. It has an OC genie (over clock genie) on the board. You push the button on the board and it overclocks everything for you and is guaranteed stable. I didn't need all the features on the GD80 so I purchased the GD65. One push of the OC genie and my Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz jumped to 3.8GHz and is totally stable running at 39 degress C. If you don't need the GD80 features, then the GD65 is sweet at only $154.00 US. The GD80 is the same price as the Gigabyte board you listed. Just thoughts. Nice either way.

Looks ice Spec.... only thing I would have changed is uping the PS to 850W to leave expansion down the road for some heavy duty crossfire or whatever.
Bedpan-OMO Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 07:11:11
Sweet rig Specimen, you'll love that power. I've been thinking of upgrading my 8800GTS but haven't reached its ceiling yet. No games I've played need the power.
Stingray Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 06:49:58
I love that new computer smell!

I'm willing to bet the 820 will OC nicely when the need for extra power arises.

I've had my 920 OC to 3.38GHz since April without issue.
