Posted - Nov 08 2009 : 21:35:59 Spec, You need to get Shattered Horizons to see what your new system can handle. It is one of the reasons I bought it. Shattered Horizons is made by Futuremark which makes 3DMark. Hence, it is designed to give you some awesome graphics to test newer machines while playing a fantastic FPS. Your GTX 260 will run it fine and would be a good game to test drive your new build.
Congrats on your new build! |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:23:25 will do. Oh I also had to purchase a new DVD burner as I'm leaving my old machine as intact as possible. This is what I got...
Samsung SH-S223Q/BEBN Black DVD+RW 22X8X16 DVD-RW 22X6X16 DL16X/12X Lightscribe DVD Writer SATA OEM - just like my last build, no IDE cables.
This is the first time I ordered from Newegg.ca so I am curious in how long it'll take to get the parts in. I'm hoping by next weekend I'll be putting it together. |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:16:31 They are very nice boards. I almost purchased one. I'll be interested in your CPU temps after your build. I am using a different heatsink. It will be nice to compare temps. |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 14:08:00 I wanted to try a Gigabyte board this time around. I've been reading good things about Gigabyte boards lately with power management and cooling. plus it was a combo deal with $35.00 bux off on the CPU and board. MSI is also a good make. It may make it on next build in about three years. |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 13:55:47 Looks good Spec. Thoughts:
Have you considered the MSI GD80? It is a very good 1156 board and is getting the nod for best MB. It has an OC genie (over clock genie) on the board. You push the button on the board and it overclocks everything for you and is guaranteed stable. I didn't need all the features on the GD80 so I purchased the GD65. One push of the OC genie and my Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz jumped to 3.8GHz and is totally stable running at 39 degress C. If you don't need the GD80 features, then the GD65 is sweet at only $154.00 US. The GD80 is the same price as the Gigabyte board you listed. Just thoughts. Nice either way.

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 10:58:47 Looks ice Spec.... only thing I would have changed is uping the PS to 850W to leave expansion down the road for some heavy duty crossfire or whatever. |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 07:11:11 Sweet rig Specimen, you'll love that power. I've been thinking of upgrading my 8800GTS but haven't reached its ceiling yet. No games I've played need the power. |

Posted - Oct 31 2009 : 06:49:58 I love that new computer smell!
I'm willing to bet the 820 will OC nicely when the need for extra power arises.
I've had my 920 OC to 3.38GHz since April without issue. |
