Posted - Sep 30 2005 : 20:23:03 Go watch it. Now.
With the ending of both the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises, we hard-core space sci fi geeks need a new kid on the block.
This is it.
Character-driven with great writing and story line. The effects are there and very well done, but do not rule the movie or overpower the story.
It is the big screen adaptation of a failed FOX series that became a cult hit once it was released to DVD. Over 60 screenings before release and all were met with raves. Some screening tickets went for $300 on Ebay. I see why now.
It's 500 years in the future and the story revolves around the eclectic crew of a private ship run by a Han Solo type character who was on the losing side of a civil war and is now reduced to illegal acts to keep the bills paid.
The banter is very funny, and the action is great.
The 1st weekend receipts will most likely decide if this turns into more movies, so go see it now if you are going to.

Posted - Oct 11 2005 : 12:15:52 yeah, FOX dropped the series because it had ONLY 4.5 MILLION viewers. What the heck does it take for a series to be considered a success????

Posted - Oct 11 2005 : 07:48:54 The series is called Firefly. Fox did a horrible job marketing it the one season it was on. You can get the DVD's at Best Buy for about $49. Well worth the cash |

Posted - Oct 10 2005 : 15:15:48 ...am I missing something here? I skipped out of the office after lunch last Friday to see Serenity. I liked it ok. Kinda had a Enterprise feel. Good action and plot. However, I don't think I ever heard of the series. That's not like me.. |

Posted - Oct 03 2005 : 15:26:28 I too was a bit torqued at the outcome of the movie.
Keep in mind though - if they do resurrect the series (doubtful, but we can hope), there is about 6-8 months of time that passes between when the show ended and the movie starts. They could do the series during that time..... |

Posted - Oct 03 2005 : 14:07:46 No shit! I loved FireFly was part of the Browncoats and the entire rescue the series thing... I went out and got the DVD the day it was in the stores... Hell there were 3 episodes that were not aired... HAD to see them..
Now on to the movie... It was awesome! Not quite where the series was but the change was required for the big screen... I will tell you this though... I am seriously upset!!! Those of you who have seen the movie know EXACTLY what I'm talking about!
Ok I'm an FN nerd... Bite me.... |
