Posted - Sep 11 2005 : 07:25:53 ok, heres my problem. when i click on the desktop icon to launch the game, i get the splash screen and then i get dropped to the desktop. eventually the game will launch, but only after 10 or 12 tries. this results in many bf2 exes, running simultaneuosly in task manager.
i have done everything that is recommended on the ea website(shutting down all programs, updating drivers etc.)
i spent an hour with an ea rep on the phone, and he had me manually uninstall the game and reinstall it in windows safe mode. this resulted in my not being able to install the bf2 1.02 patch(i had to do it manually). after all this when i finally got into the game the other night, i coud not connect to any servers. luckily i had backed the reg, and only after reinstalling the old reg, was i able to connect. now i am back at square one with the additional problem that the game will not uninstall. click on unsinstall, nothing happens. |

Posted - Sep 11 2005 : 17:17:18 I thought about that to Festus. When I was at Ericsson, once you uninstalled Office there were some registry entries that wouldn't go away. One was the language entry and the file langus had to be manually removed. Not sure why some software is setup to install and not uninstall

Posted - Sep 11 2005 : 11:04:01 Somewhere on the OTH clan boards there is a thread on uninstalling BF2. I recall you actually had to go and manually delete some registry entries for a complete uninstall and to be able to reinstall the game in working condition.

Posted - Sep 11 2005 : 09:02:22 You should be able to uninstall it from the Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs. Have you installed the first patch, 1.01? I think you have to install that first and then the 1.02 patch. Also you need to make sure PB is up-to-date. Get the program pbsetup.exe. Make sure you check for updates the first time you run it. You may have to check for updates 2-3 times to get all the updates. Also the first thing you should do is make sure you go to the Windows Update site and get all the latest updates including the .NET framework along with any updates not on the Critical list. You don't need some stuff like the foreign language packs, but get any reccomended updates. |
