Posted - Mar 29 2006 : 08:46:13 Since I've been having connection problems I probably fragged the recent patch..and it didn't work properly.. and rather than try to determine where the orphans live... I just decided to REMOVE ALL BF2 and its components and do a fresh reinstall.
I did the fresh reinstall but I want to make sure the order of which I did this is correct.
1) Installed BF2 from the 3 CDs 2) Installed BF2 Special Forces from EA downloader 3) Installed BF2 Special Forces Patch 1.21 4) Install BF2 Euro Pack 5) Install Bf2 Patch 1.22 FULL.
does this sound correct ?

deleted Temp folder...loaded BF2.. loaded SF... loaded patch for SF... did the 2 incremental patches for Euro.. loaded Euro... did the latest incremental patch to 1.22 .. although I recieved a Windows error message for each incremental patch.. it works now.

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 08:51:49 That was more of a concern than a fact. I rename them to .bak files and I've had no problems with the punk.

I thought removing the *.bik files would get you in trouble with PB? |

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 08:27:36 Dementia, the one thing I always do is to save the BF2 profiles folder (found in your documents and settings). It's not essential but it saves time by restoring control settings. After a fresh install I just replace the new profiles folder with the saved one.
The above is only necessary when you decide to clear every last remnant of BF2 evidence from your hard drive. A normal uninstall will leave your profiles info intact. You probably already know about deleting or renaming the video .bik files so you dont have to sit through the video preamble on BF2 startup.... but I've mentioned it anyway.

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 08:04:04 Yep do this to empty temp files Go to Start-Run and type %temp% This should bring up all your temp files. You can delete all that mess. I've done it on all my computers and have had no problems. |

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 07:41:30 Thanks Speciman.. I'm also reading thoroughly through the EA Tech site and it appears ( and I'm suprised I didn't think of this) I should also delete everything in my TEMP folder before doing anything....
more to come..

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 07:19:28 Yeah after installing and uinstalling several times.. I ran into the same problem.. the 1.22 patch wasn't the only patch I needed (even though logic would tell you it would be)
Last night I was able to play with BF2 ONLY not Euro maps and not SF/
I loaded BF2 from scratch and patched 1.22.
The problem I kept on running into earlier was I would load BF2 / Load SF / the TRY and Load Euro maps. I would continuely get a error message stating that I needed to patch before loading the Euro Maps. So I would patch the 2 incremental patches necessary for the Euro maps off the BF2 Downloader... Then patch the 1.22 and after the 1.22 I would recieve a Windows error message and the Battlefield Downloader would show that it was ready to install ~again~ (as if I hadn't patched it.
Frankly I'm getting a little bit tired of having to go through this entire ordeal again.
You would THINK that you should be able to load 3 GAMES you've Purchased ... and then make 1 PATCH
Catherter brought up the notion on Vent last night that even though I've removed all programs to do a clean reinstall that there may be some fragments left in my Windows Registry. that need to be deleted.
Does anyone have any information about this before I try one last reinstall and hang this game out to dry.

Posted - Mar 30 2006 : 06:20:28 I just purchased BF2 for Mrs FUD and hence I had to do a new install on her PC. In the process I discovered that EF would not install untill I had patched the BF2 installation to a level 1.2 status. (most peculiar) So, from a new install, I then ran the latest full patch followed by EF and so far it has worked fine. Judy and I managed to play BF2 a little while late last night to try out the implications of running BF2 on two different PC's on the same LAN.
On another note, whilst in a game I had to change sides (cause Mrs Fud ended up as the enemy) and following that, every time I killed a red tag, my score decremented and when it reached -12 I declared a 'bug' situation. After that map it was back to normal and scoring was ok (very low but ok).
Anyway, we shall be on the maps from today. See y'all on the battlefield.

Posted - Mar 29 2006 : 15:49:24 Everything I have seen says to load all the applications first and then apply the most current patch. Euro Force is considered part of the base BF2 now, so whatever patch is applied has to be done it has been installed. If you patched before you downloaded EF, then you would have to reapply the patch. |

Posted - Mar 29 2006 : 14:19:37 I think SF requires 1.03 but if it's not there the SF download installs it. At least that's what looked like happened last time I had to reinstall everything after a format.
Before he installs Euro pack I'm pretty sure he'll need to install 1.21 full or 1.22 full and then repatch after Euro pack with 1.22. Euro requires one or the other. 1.22 was to fix 1.21 so I'd do it twice. Once before Euro and once after. |
