As many of you probably know, my favorite part of BF2 is to be commander; don't know why, it just is.

So I was thinking of changes that could make a good commander even more dangerous; of course I thought about a tactical nuke, however I ruled that out, just not practical - though I am sure we can all have long discussions about that one.

What I would like to see (maybe a MOD?) is the ability for a commander to lay down an EMP bomb,
say only 1 per round.

It would last say 90 seconds, effect the entire map disabling all vehicles; planes and choppers would fall to the ground (you could of course bail out), tanks would stop. Mounted machine guns would still work, as would all infantry weapons (though that is a stretch, as the anti-tank rockets would not work after an EMP strike). All commander abilities (arty, orders, uav & sat) would also be dead during that time (even zooming I would think).

There would be no notifications of flags being lost or taken (though if you watched the map you could see them turn). There would still be notices of kills/deaths.

I think this could be used in a real tactical way; take Wake for example. The other day I was playing as commander and we lost every flag and I ended up being the only guy left alive. They of course UAV'd my arse and somebody (I think it was Older) nailed me very proficiently with a jet.

Now if I had that EMP, I could have laid it down, and made my way towards the nearest flag, or even resign as commander, form a squad and have everybody spawn on me; while the enemy commander could not locate me/us.

Anyhow, that is my idea; I think it could be very interesting in the hands of a competent commander, and amusing in the hands of a buffoon. :-)

Anyhow, I thought I would share that with you guys.
