Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 08:43:02 So I finally made it to 1st Sgt last night, and I received 1 lousy unlock.
I thought I would be able to unlock say the flashbang; but no! Only unlocks available to me are the PKM and the M95 Sniper Kit.
Do I have to unlock all the kits from the 1.0 release before I can get to the other kits?
That would be annoying; as little as I have time to play, bftracker says it will take me about 14 months to reach the next rank! I will never get to play with the new kit. |

Any volunteers to help me out? |

Posted - Apr 28 2006 : 07:06:02 Just what I was going to suggest. SF is cool, but no one plays it anymore. We had an SF night a few weeks ago and it was OK, but most left after a couple maps. I play it once in a while if another BCO or OMO is playing somewhere. If your thinking of buying it just for the upgrades, just do what Catheter and and Cack recommend. I just want to get to the next level (50,000 points) so I can get the L96 or whatever that uber sniper rifle is. |

Posted - Apr 28 2006 : 06:53:08 Yeah PM your login name and password to someone here and have them login as you play a few seconds in Special Forces log off. Then you login and voila! You have 7 unlocks to play with! |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 15:24:37 That's a tough call. Yes you do get some kool weapons and there are a few kool maps but we've tried having a certain night designated as SF night and it's bombed out twice and we switch back to stardard BF2. You can use your unlocks in stardard BF2 once you get them.
I don't know if it works, but if you have a buddy that has SF, see if he'll let you play. Once you log on as yourself it should give you some new unlocks. I've heard this works but can't verify it.

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 15:15:20 For $30 you get the nice unlocks as well some great maps. (Warlord, Ghost Town and Leviathan come to mind.) You get to hear cool Russian, dumb posh English, and more Arabic voices than you can shake a stick at.
For the medics you get the uber awesome G36E which is my mortal weakness in the game. Whenever I face up against an enemy with this I seem to die more often than survive. The MG36 is a nice alternative to the PKM, the flashbanging F2000 kit is nice but seems to have lost its initial coolness with me, I prefer the AK-47, AK-101 and G3 better. You have to try out the L96A1 sniper rifle as it has the thinnest crosshairs of all the bolt actions. Although I am finding that I am picking the M24 more often when I am USMC for some reason, I guess I like the firing report and clink when rechambering better.
Grappling hooks and ziplines are very fun too! Special Forces is very infantry based and it has increased my ground pounding skills immensely. You can't run and gun like in vanilla BF2 or else you will be toast. |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 14:52:42 I'm having a tough time justifying $30 over the $50 to $60 I already paid for the game.
From those who play it, is SF worth it? |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 10:45:18 Laugh - I was actually thinking the same thing. Make that EMP an unlock.
I might send EA an email... |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 08:53:31 yes, see my previous post.
I agree, it is really cheap what EA chose to do with the SF unlocks. |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 08:50:28 Doh!
Man what a money making machine EA has devised!
Cheers to them, the bastards. |

Posted - Apr 27 2006 : 08:50:05 To get any of the 2nd tier unlocks (flashbang, cool sniper rifle) you need to have purchased Special Forces.
Also, in order to get the 2nd tier unlock for a given class you need to have first selected the 1st tier unlock (G3 for the assault class)
I just purchased Special Forces a couple of weeks ago... I played a round in SF, came back and played a round in vanilla BF2, and then I had a number of additional unlocks available which was equal to the number I had before. With SF, when I crossed 20 K and made it to Master Sergeant, I got 2 new unlocks, instead of the 1 unlock I got when I got promoted to that level as Johnny Fairplay.
Hope this helps... |
