You were banned for stat padding. I observed you carefully trying to switch to the Chinese side after you realized the US side would lose. As such I kicked you. Don't join a side then switch when you think you will lose, it will not be tolotated. If you want to play again, understand this otherwise you will be perma-banned.

It has, as far as I can tell.

Great suggestion Older. Does this also hold true is you are the only person in the squad?

Twice last night, playing Wake Island, I was switched 'Auto Balanced' near the end of the rounds. My duty was killing the Arty and making sure it stayed down. I did my duty, died and spawned a million times and auto-switched both times to the loosing side near the end.

It is not a permanent ban. I am not a Full admin so my bans last a short time (if I recall Cathy's set up comments). He can actually play again on the server. I had also checked the ban list to see if his name popped up - it did not. I just didn't want to have to deal with his BS while playing that night - hence the ban.

Padding stats on any server is wrong.....We do the same..Were generally not as tough as this individual case (we would prob kick and wait for the return attitude so to ban him in front of others), but its no better than someone finding a "hole in the wall" or hiding under/in a building your not suppose to be in..or tossing nades in the water to help someone get expert resupply..or even the knive revive tactic..it really says somthing about the character of the person that is playing, and up to an Admin to decion to wether these types of people play here or not.....And if it causes other players to be forced to switch as Cack described..i would say it disrupts the gameplay for most of the server. Any instace he would still be gone I think.

So apparently Petri made that decision and felt stronly enough about it to post....I can only imagin how many are in the ban list, but I would say this makes a statement to post about it and maybe to help others understand that its not tolerated.....

I dont mean to but in, but this is somthing we handle regularly as well, and I give props to these guys for sticking to there guns....no matter how layed back OMO may be.

Tread Posted - Jun 09 2006 : 19:28:54
Hes just rtying to pad his win/loss ratio..Not used in War college anymore, but it still padding.
mfredm Posted - Jun 09 2006 : 19:17:47
ya so okay. my question is not answered. if by switching sides, and im thinking the guy is not on a medal hunt. how is that stat padding?

I was in this game and I pointed it out to Petrified over Ventrilo (I think it was still working back then). He was originally on the Chinese side in the J10. Then were capping every flag. I then noticed his name, but in blue (I tend to look up frequently to see where the action is and I also noticed that he was using the F-35B. When the Chinese broke free and started winning again, he switched sides yet again and then got in a J10.

I have been a victim of being switched sides multiple times by the server in one round like a dirty prostitute going around the block. I have been switched as a lone wolf, squad member and squad leader. It is very annoying. There have been two occasions where I was a commander and have been switched to the other side because auto balance was on and I was the only one to die on my team. The other team's players were disconnecting like mad, and we had a 6 player advantage... Then some other knob gets the double points because he applied to be commander when I couldn't rejoin my side.

I always stay with the side I start on till the round ends, even if we are losing. Other OMO can attest to that. The issue is not general but very specific to this individual. He was on the other side until it became clear they would lose. At that point, he switched. We switched him back on death and he switched again, but remained dead for quite a few minutes before spawning again and becoming engaged which happens to be the point he was kicked - since he was doing nothing. He arrived back and got onto the winning side at which point I temporairily banned him. Now, maybe he had to use the restroom, but his behavior that evening already indicated he wanted to be on the team won.

Some OMO will start in the middle of a match and ask to be switched to the side with other OMO. Personally, at the start of a match this is fine, but in the middle or end, when people have been playing one side, it is unfair to our guests - even if it puts the guest on the winning side.
Older- OMO Posted - Jun 09 2006 : 14:26:26
Auto balance is not turned on. Actually switching to the winning side is documented in the BF2 ROE "§ Team switching to gain medals or awards" as a violation. There are a bunch of medals and ribbons that are awarded based on victories for armies. Regardless, it is also poor sporting.

Auto balance prevents players from manually changing sides during a round. The problem with not running it is free switching can screw up sides. Even with smart balance or with any balance, it would be an extremely rare circumstance to be switched to a winning side. The most common effect is to be switched to the losing side as people attempt to quit before getting a loss (doesn't matter, they get the loss if they have been in the game long enough). They guy mentioned above had other issues beyond what was posted.

I am not aware of OMOs switching sides just for wins. It may be that they were switched or had the opportunity to switch with players coming or going. NOTE if you want to avoid being switched, especially near the end of rounds, be a squad leader. Squad leaders aren't affected.

Kidcurry:

You're not the only one that has been bumped to the other side from some unknown reason. It is not intentional here and it has happened to OMO's as well. We are not sure why this is going on.

I think Petrified has more issues with this dude than just switching sides. There seems to be a language problem there as well.
mfredm Posted - Jun 09 2006 : 12:01:44
ya, how is switching sides considered stat padding? i mean, points is points, doesnt matter what side your on. and a win loss record does nothing for your rankimg does it?
kidcurry Posted - Jun 09 2006 : 11:52:54
I wasn't going to respond to this because the actual player did not, but I found it a little humorous that you were so strongly against changing sides. I see where this could be condsidered stat padding (which is banned by OMO), but it seems a little nitpicky. That is not, however, what I am writing about. I have seen this with OMO players before. I was playing on Zatar as USMC and had just captured the base closest to the MEC uncap. MEC only had their uncap remaining. I was killed and suddenly switched to the MEC side and noticed that all the OMO had stacked themselves on the "winning" USMC side after we had captured the final capturable base. I was then autobalanced to the MEC. I have had this happen a few times in the past where I get autoballanced to the loosing side with only minimal tickets left. I would say that this would be the same situation described in the above post.
