Do we have a policy on cartillery? I have played on servers where it is outlawed, however have not seen anything for our server.

I personally take great satisfaction in plopping a car on a sniper. I have also dropped cars on smoking tanks that are attempting to cap a flag.

I employed both techniques with success last night and nobody complained; however I wanted to make sure we didn't have a policy somewhere I have not read about, as I was away for a month or so.

I am of the opinion that if you can do it and is not a glitch, then it is legal. I have read that the next patch will do something to make this much more difficult, so I will just practice more.

BTW - great games last night. Noticed that all OMO except myself and one other were on one side, however it was still very evenly matched, usually games (ones I played) decided by less than 20 pts.

I have to go along with the no cartillery thing. Although I do like to drop a vehicle about 20 to 30 feet in front of the jet on the chinese airbase so they can't take off.

So what is cartillery then? I was away for a while so I am not familiar with the difference?

Since the patch will end my fun, I will enjoy it while I can. When I am commanding, I am usually fully dedicated to doing so; dropping a car on a sniper gives me a feeling of accomplishment since I usually try to save arty's for more strategic uses.

This is real cartillery! http://www.oldmenonline.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5601

What's real fun is to time a drop on the runway just as a jet is coming out from under the hanger during take off. Makes a fine mess or injures the jet so badly he has to make a few swipes across the runway to get healed.

I have to kinda lean tward what Bloody said, sounds resonable. I use it to my advantage for now considering you won't be able to when the new patch comes out. ;)

I plan to drop cars when I so chose. So... yeah, as far as I am concerned it is legal.

I for one am against it..

But the few times I have comanded since 1.3 I take full advantage.

I will be happy to see it go.

First, there is a difference between car dropping and cartillery. Both OMO and now BCO have been the victims of real cartillery. Having clarified that point, car dropping by a commander on assets, people, etc is cheap, but effective. We are not going to outlaw it on our servers, as it really isn't a big issue for us. If there is a commander that is doing a lot of it, we simply do a couple things. One, we get the person that needs a bunch of repair points and have then drive around fixing like mad. Second, we have someone like Tread go hunt down and kill frequently the offending commander. Easy solutions.

If you have played the beta patch, you know it's damn near impossible to hit anything or anyone with the cars now. Drops are in the general area and tend to be within several meters of where you click, but not close enough to pin point drops. It's random too, so you can't figure out where to drop to get it on your target.

BP, you have to play in order to know how to do it! Get back on the battlefield more often!

I will be happy when it's gone, but I love doing it when I command. It makes the job a lot more enjoyable instead of giving commands that never get followed, getting TKs despite the big red arty symbol, listening to people whine about not getting supply crates, etc..

I agree with Skidi on this one. I watched a perfectly healthy tank holding a position in front of a flag get taken out by someone dropping a sand rail on top of it. It is like a player having personal 120mm mortars at their disposal. If it were limited to dropping yourself a ride when you are stuck somewhere, I'd be all for it. But, dropping it to make a kill is BS. Besides, I don't know how to do it.
SkidiMark-OMO Posted - Aug 04 2006 : 09:18:44
LOL, I found that laying near a physical barrier like a low wall when sniping will stop the car unless the dropper is very lucky or extremely good and it just missed the object.

I think Cartillary is an exploit.....and shouldn't be allowed

That was a blast last night! I had a great time playing. I don't recall another day when we had so many tight matches. 0-1 can't get any closer than that.

Thanks to all OMO's and reg's.
Older- OMO Posted - Aug 04 2006 : 09:07:45
No rule, so car drop away. It's annoying that a dedicated commander can take out the other side's assets without a person (spec ops) involved meaning you either have a dedicated engineer running around or forget about using things like arty. Cars reload faster than supply crates, so you can end up in a losing battle. No problem eliminaing snipers and other ground troops or other vehicles. I like taking out choppers and planes as well. The patch should introduce enough changes so cars can't be used to glitch into buildings, take out assets or vehicles. The variability in the way they drop may also eliminate the ability to take out the snipers, commanders, etc.
