Posted - Feb 12 2007 : 08:56:48 Here's what to do for this and any other patch/beta so you can play the current and other versions of the game. FYI, if you run the open beta, you can see all the new unlocks in the game and actually use them through field upgrades. This should also work for the guys who are worried about running mods on their BF2 installs.
Install 2142 from DVD or Link Get on Link and download patch 1.10 and Patch to 1.10 (or whatever is the current version of the game.
This is the normal path to the "Battlefield 2142" folder C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts
Copy the Battlefield 2142 folder. You should have the two large folders: Battlefield 2142 and Copy of Battlefield 2142 Rename "Copy of Battlefield 2142" to something like "Vanilla2142"
Navigate into the Vanilla 2142 folder and find the exe and create shortcut. Rename the shortcut "Vanilla2142"
Finally move the shortcut to your desktop. You should have Battlefield 2142 shortcut (goes to original 2142 install) and a "Vanilla2142" When you click on the Vanilla2142 icon, your standard version of the game will launch.
Now when you patch or mod, it will do it to your "Battlefield 2142" folder. This version of the game will launch from your standard 2142 desktop shortcut.
Important STEP FOR PATCHING YOUR VANILLA 2142
When a new patch and NS content is available, it will change the Battlefield 2142 folder files. You will need to either delete the current version (beta or modded) or Rename it to something like "Beta2142" Rename your "Vanilla2142" folder back to "Battlefield 2142" If you don't do this step, you will not be patching the right folder.

Posted - Feb 12 2007 : 09:27:28 Which patch? When the public version of the 1.2 patch comes out, you want it to patch over the vanilla version of the game, which is why you need to change it back to Battlefield 2142. In theory, you will probably be able to patch over the public beta patch since it's actually 1.19. It was a bit more complicated with the NS content. |
