Posted - Nov 24 2009 : 06:43:56 I'm all for freedom, if you want to "save the planet" recycle if it makes you feel better. Drive a little car to work (it's your funeral if you get slammed from behind).
What I never liked about the global warming crowd is they wanted others to conform to their way of thinking by crippling business by heavy taxing.
Now it looks like the whole thing was an elaborate hoax that was exposed by some hackers that got a hold of some emails at the CRU in England who were supposed to be the authority on the matter and revealed they were cooking the books in their favor.

I don't really care one way or the other if you believe in it or not but I hate it when others use the power of Government to pick the pockets of taxpayers based on junk science. |

Posted - Jan 09 2010 : 10:42:06 What I detest is taking massive actions (read trillions of dollars in economic changes and potential economic catatrophe in the left's cap and trade scam) on something it is quite clear we know very little about.
A recent article I read about the glaciers melting in parts of Europe were specifically due to soot. Black soot was landing on the glaciers and absorbing more heat than white snow, so causing the ice to melt. The fix for that is much easier than controlling carbon dioxide. Better filters, maybe?
No one is against power diversification, but one of the best power sources is nuclear and the eco-wacko-left are totally opposed to it and to the Nevada storage site. These are close-minded people that have made their belief system the equivelent of a religion (think flat earth Roman Catholics 500 years ago that firmly believe in the end-justifies-the-means. If you don't have the right evidence, fake it. If you can't beat the messange, destroy the messenger. If you can't pass the laws, have the courts redefine the existing laws/constitution. The leaders on the left are utterly corrupt and I despise them for the harm they are doing to this country and now the world. The problem is even when they are exposed they get a free pass from Kool-Aid drinkers (I'll stop there). |

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 22:00:05 Nosy the whole point is that the "evidence" wasn't really evidence at all. The E-mails that were "obtained' clearly show that experts were cooking the books.
Now I'll agree that we should limit pollution when we can but when Al Gore rants that the world will end as we know it unless we revert back to the stone ages, then I'll have to respectfully disagree.
We should be able to discuss topics with out getting personal and you shouldn't take a disagreement to your position as a personal attack. We love you Man! (bear hug)

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 21:48:36 Just so you know Nose, I'm all for variety when it comes to energy. I just detest bad science. When I get into a home, I plan on setting up Solar to supplement the regular line.
But... Nose... please: you use W as a reason to think it is true? o.0 |

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 20:45:37 I know guys. This is just a bunch of left wing socialist/communist scientist bent on crippling the United States with the "clean up" cost because it's the only way the rest of the world can level the playing field. Those blogs are the best attempt to discredit the science (there is more to that story than you seem interested in reading about). I know it's not a black and white issue, surely you guys don't really think you really understand what is happening (scientifically or politically). There is again no dispute (even W agreed) that the average temperatures GLOBALLY are rising at an alarming rate. There is way too much science to show this, read more please (I'm not even going to link as a simple google search will show enough). The CO2 is in fact a contributor (the ice cores from 400,000 thousand years show the connections with temperature variations, even though there is a delay and that gives enough doubt to the...other side). I do listen to Rush and Glenn and watch some Fox news. Perhaps you guys could listen to the other side just for kicks. Maybe open up the mind just a little (it doesn't hurt I swear).
Hey even if we don't give two &%#$ about the environmental impact of fossil fuels, it sure seems like a no brainer that we should develop alternative energy here as we do NOT have enough to satisfy our current and future needs without enriching the enemies abroad. Even Glenn Beck recently suggested that research be funded to inverters to make alternative sources viable asap. Let them have their $#%& oil over there. We need energy independence to insure national security don't you think.
Alright, I won't rant anymore. I joined OMO for comradeship and this sure hasn't made me feel a part of the group any longer. I know BCO and TLB don't permit the Religion and Politics threads on their boards. Have at though, as BiF said "It's a free country and we have our right to free speech."
We were just a gaming club back when I joined, ah but that was long ago.
memories....
wtf I thought I was going to stop rambling...lol |

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 18:34:16 Already had that linked on my blog.
Nose, you know the whole debate over global warming is political when "scientists" dismiss evidence of increasing solar radiation being the culprit of global warming. This article from Feb 2007 in National Geographic is the perfect example of the un-scientific approach to Global Warming - especially Anthropomorphic Global Warming (yeah, I love the British term for it better). It presents the evidence of a scientist and then dismisses that evidence. Not a dismissal based off of scientific argument but based solely on other scientists insisting on Anthropomorphic Global Warming.
So, if CO2 is such a horrible thing, you would think it makes up a substantial portion of our atmosphere, right? "CO2 is a trace gas being only 0.038% of the atmosphere." Amazing that less than a tenth of a percent of CO2 in the atmosphere is to blame.
Atmospheric content on average: Dry air contains roughly (by volume): 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.93% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and small amounts of other gases. Air also contains a variable amount of water vapor, on average around 1%.
The evidence supporting solar radiation impacting the Earth is as critical as Night vs Day. More light = More heat. A scientific examination of the impact of gasses relating to the long term buildup of heat in an atmosphere would be best done in a closed environment (Earth is not a closed environment). Such a study would involve a closed room with specific mixes of gasses. It would contain emitters bombarding the room with wavelengths of radiation identical to sol's emissions. There would be scattered sensors which would measure the change in temperature related to the increase and decrease in radiation and cross indexed to controlled increases and decreases in the mix of the gasses in the room.
The point of the experiment is to obtain measurable data relating to the proportional mixes of gasses and the heating and cooling results within the room. The proportional data can then give a much better indication of the impact of proportional increases and decreases in atmospheric gases in relation to Earths cooling and heating. |

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 16:58:50 umm nosey did you read the first post where the clear "Scientific" data was drummed up because the real data showed that there has been a steady decrease in global temps?. BTW it's freaking cold outside! but I'll ignore that fact and keep telling myself that it's getting warming somewhere else.
Read this. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100017393/climategate-the-final-nail-in-the-coffin-of-anthropogenic-global-warming/

Posted - Jan 07 2010 : 11:49:11 Hi ya guys. Just thought I'd give a quick shout out here in the ole THTH. I'd stake my...um...reputation that the climate change/ global warming data that shows a CLEAR increase in temperatures is based on a scientific (not political) global reading (not your backyard thermometer either). I don't think that has been in dispute. I thought the debate was regarding mans contribution.
I was glad to see this thread missing from our board for a short time. While I'm bothered to see it back, it's here to stay for now. I'll see you all around the next BF release or perhaps even the return of Homeworld.
Till then, hasta la vista baby |

Posted - Dec 13 2009 : 21:49:41 I would suggest that if there is a verifiable change in the CO2 in the atmosphere, they need to look at our raping of the oceans and removing so much bio-mass that it can no longer support the levels of algae and other plant based microorganisms to sustain the CO2 to O2 conversion rate.
It is not the factories nearly as much as the oceans, but liberals don't hate fisherman (except whalers), they hate industry. They can't live without their crabcakes to go with their wine.
This is my two cents from an old Coast Guardsman. |

Can someone confirm this for me, is Co2 lighter than air? if it isn't then how could the plants absorb it? Al Gore says we pump 90 billion tons of Co2 in the atmosphere a day? how does it get in the atmosphere if it's heavier air? Does he realize he himself pumps Co2 in to air by the natural act of exhaling? I'm sorry but that flavor of Kool-Aid doesn't appeal to my pallet.
