Ok my OMO govenment watch dogs I need to hear your opinions on last weeks ruling that corporations should have the rights of people. I have been waiting since last week for some OMO outrage and nary a peep from any of you.

Some of you have said the liberal take over has started but I say the corporate take over has started and our country and govenment has been handed to them on a silver platter by 5 justices all put on the court by Republican presidents so much for conservative justices. Just think about it a company from another country lets say oh China incorporates in America they are now a citizen and have contitutional rights and can now affect our elections and politicians.

Just for giggles here are a couple of articles for you to mull over before you give an opinion.

It is no longer a matter of right or left it is a matter or right or wrong, ok I am done I think.

Fossil, speaking of government jobs you might like this post. The main numbers I was toying with are further down the post, but basically for every Federal Employee, you have to a certain number of people working in the private sector to pay their paycheck (and that is just for active employees - does not cover retired nor the non-employee related costs like hardware and welfare).
Bypass-OMO Posted - Jan 30 2010 : 14:56:00
I see your all thinking national corps and not multi national corps were board members are from other countries, I really want those guys involved in our political system that is the real danger in this decision!!!!!!
Fossil-OMO Posted - Jan 29 2010 : 20:12:28
Just to play devil's advocate for bit, as long as corporations pay taxes they have the right to be represented.

I know all about corporate greed, the company I work for is among the greediest. They made 13 billion net profit last year, that's after the bills are paid for and they demanded we take a cut in benefits. At the end of the day though I get a pay check from them and a pretty good one too so I look at them as a necessary evil. Govt jobs alone can't sustain the the economy.

Had to post again. LOL... Was listening to talk radio and heard a great caller description of what he thought the result of the decision would be ....

It will make the US Congress into the largest house of prostitution in the country.

I laughed my butt off at this guy's naivete... I mean, that has been the case for some time now.

---- Possible silver lining ---

Hey... maybe I will get a job painting sets for the all those new poiltical 'documentaries' that will be coming out. If it creates jobs I am for it.

Thank you all for your input I love it that everyone was so nice lol. I just have a thing about making corps more powerfull and the people less powerfull we shall see how this all works out but I am with Nosey fire the lot and get someone in office that is acually for the people and not to get rich and powerfull at the price of our freedoms.
Nosehair-OMO Posted - Jan 28 2010 : 17:04:13

Is this like a "Brett Farve moment" here?

I mean talk about a short retirement.

LOL
Petrified-OMO Posted - Jan 28 2010 : 13:11:36
WOW... talk about derailing the thread! Yay me.
Fossil-OMO Posted - Jan 28 2010 : 12:45:28
You know what they say about a politician and moving lips...
Expired-OMO Posted - Jan 28 2010 : 09:17:00
Well I watched it and as a "Speech" it was done extremely well. Now do I believe it ?... well perhaps half of it. Will anything truly change ?...I hope so but kind of doubt it. Lately when it comes to some politics I have taken the position of "Hoping for the Best and Expecting the Worst"
Nosehair-OMO Posted - Jan 28 2010 : 04:57:28
I watched it last year. No reason to listen again imho. Still trying to figure out what has "changed". I'll give the independents a good look down here in Georgia come Nov.
I've been accused of throwing away my vote by voting this way, but my conscious is clear. May the worst men not win.
Petrified-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 18:22:47
Watching the President's speech... pretty funny guy.
Fossil-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 18:22:30
The only thing that this decision does is give voice to those who want to influence the ignorant.

I leave for 4 days and the boards go wild!
BackPainOMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 17:26:43
Just so long as it continues to support free broadcast television and low cable rates, I am for it all the way.
BluehairOMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 16:42:58
All This decision means to me is that I will have more crap to ignore. Like Nosie said, I know propaganda when I don't see it(great line). I stopped paying attention to any political election media, left or right, a few election cycles ago. I do this thing called old fashioned research. If something gets my interest I look into it myself. I make it a point to avoid any source that has a vested interest in the subject at hand. I also use my BS detector to reverse-engineer a lot of positions taken by both sides. If the opposing side cannot logically dispute a point, then I have my answer. If a source takes information out of context and spins it, it is no longer a source.

I did see a hilarious political cartoon the other day that sums it all nicely... A little boy is next to a man getting out of a car. The man has corporate logos all over his clothes. The little boy asks "Are you a NASCAR driver?"

The man says "No I am a Senator."

-----------

Our political system was in the crapper before this decision. I believe this will just make more money for media outlets and actors/producers/directors/etc.

----------

Most voters are not the mindless drones that folks on both sides think. It will take more than fancy spin packaging to disguise a bad position.
Nosehair-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 16:00:41
Stream of consciousness...rdy...go!

I never saw Al Gore's film. I know propaganda when I don't see it. On the other Al guy, he cracks me up. I can't take him seriously, but they must have up there. Left and right is simply the power struggle of small minds and big egos. The "fight" seems to mobilize a base and get voters to the polls. Other than that the parties are NOT about the people. As something said in someones quote here "they are self serving blah blah blah". I want'm all out. Let's start all over. Compromise is a lost art. It's called weak and caving in now. The founding fathers are brought up all the time lately. They knew principle and compromise. They can coexist.

lock it LOCK IT

before I call somebody a bad name
LOL
HEARTBURN-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 12:53:18
But, I guess you do support Al Gore's film and your buddy Al from Minnysoda's 3 films? Come on Nosey. This affords all of us the opportunity to put out our own propaganda. Not just the far left. lol
Petrified-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 12:51:01
It would not be the first time precidence has been overturned. Segregation anyone? While I means large corps can spend big bucks, it does not mean you will be any more or less informed than you already are.

Just remember: an advert is wasted money if the voters don't pay attention to it. Always look at the facts, not the perception presented of those facts.

Besides, it was unconstitutional for Congress to limit speech - even if it is a corporation. The 1st Amendment does not limit freedom of speech to individuals or corporations.

And, in the end, a corporation is jack without people who do speak. McCain-Feingold did nothing to stop Soros from spending money to influeence campaigns.
Nosehair-OMO Posted - Jan 27 2010 : 11:29:35
I am fed up with this thread and sick of the bs that has been said here in the past. I do have an opinion regarding the effectiveness of my vote vs a $10,000,000 ad campaigns, but hey I'm just blowing smoke and drinking koolaide I know. I can't imagine where the Supreme Court dragged up the balls to challenge the precedence set in 1907 with this propaganda piece that was being put up as a "film" about Hillary. It's been labeled as dangerous by the folks on the right too btw (but you can do your own search if you give a ^%$#).
