Here's an excerpt from the review!

"Gamers reluctant to upgrade from Windows XP fear not. You finally have a reason to upgrade. If I was running Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 though, I wouldn’t be in a rush to pick up Windows 7. It’s definitely an improvement over Vista, but unless you plan on running SLI or CrossFire, it’s probably not worth Microsoft’s asking price. After all, it is fundamentally just a highly polished extension of Vista. Instead I’d spend that money on a better graphics card or CPU.

Windows 7 is the genuine article though. This time the final product does live up to the hype. By taking the features of Vista, improving the interface, and combining the best attributes of Windows XP, namely its performance and stability, Microsoft has put together a solid OS that should please the most discriminating hardware enthusiast or gamer. In some ways, this may just be Microsoft's best OS yet."

DX10 is supported in vista and win 7! Is that your question?

Skipping Vista and upgrading to Win7 when they drag me kicking and screaming (e.g. system requirements of the newest and greatest don't support XP).

Yes. I think that's the only reason for me to upgrade....question is, is it worth it?

One thing to remember when switching from XP to Win7 you have to do a complete reformat and reinstall.

Dx10 is prettier than DX9. Whether it's worth it is in the eye of the beholder. It's worth say $50 for a new operating system but it's not worth $300 for a new dx10 video card.

I've been using Vista for more than 2 years and I really don't understand all the BS about it. I've been in technology for 36 years so I see it as a normal OS introduction: sucks at first, gets better after SP1 and rocks sometime thereafter. Why you all have this rabid affection for XP is silly!

It is rabid dislike for Microsoft releasing programs that should be in beta that they are calling finished programs that forces them to pick up their game. If everyone just accepted that programs are ok to be released before they are finished, it would just get worse and product quality would continue to decline.

Microsoft gets the brunt of it, because they are one of the worst offenders and also try to push consumers around more than anyone else.

Wow, running through Grizzly Hills (the clearest, most detailed region) on a private server with settings cranked on high...
DX 9.0c (what was running on XP x64 sp2): approx 30 fps with shadowing problems
DX 11 (what's running right now on win 7 ultimate x64): approx 150 fps, no shadowing issues, and for the first time EVAR, I saw my FPS hit 300 for a moment.

EVE Online with detting cranked on high:
DX 9: 45-75 fps
DX 11: 130-175 fps

The release date is 10/22/2009. This bandwagon is one that I would jump on.

To my knowledge there are no DX11 video cards currently available. The most you can get rigth now is DX10.1 What Vid card were you using?

Just noticed a $30 price drop on the 295's. you can pick one up for $470. Also, the price of the 275's (best bang for the buck imho) dropped as well to the low $200 range.

Looks like their clearing inventory to me. DX11 cards are probably just around the corner.

Glad I waited to upgrade my 8800's.

Excerpt from ARS Technica:
The good news, however, is that DX11 will be ported to Windows Vista as well as Windows 7—there will be no need to "upgrade" one's OS this time around. Those of you still on XP might as well get used to the idea of Vista or Vista's successors—if you stay on Windows, you're headed that direction, and DX11 won't be coming to XP, either.
