To sum it up - MekTek is apparently releasing a new, unauthorized, free expantion to Mercs. New mechs, including the Blood Asp and Maurauder. New weapons like heavy lasers. Word on the street says it's being released sometime today...

Anyone downloaded it yet? If so how's it working. Is it adding new Mechs to the game, or replacing existing?
Any servers running it at this point?

I don't think it's available for download yet. I see a lot of people begging to beta test it on the MekTek forums. As I understand it, it will essentially, be a patch and treated as a newer version of Mercs. Some people have claimed seeing a server show up in green (i.e., newer version) on ZoneMatch.
I'm anxious to get it a whirl. New mechs, new weapons...

Checked out the article over at Mektek. To be honest Eccentric, I'd be suprised if they got it out by July since they're saying it's only an Alpha at this point.
The screenies look real good, so it looks like they've already done most of the grunt work, but tweaking everything to bring it up to existing standards will take some work, and time.
I'd anticipate that we won't be seeing this till the August/September timeframe, assuming no-one (Harmony Gold/Microshaft) raises a big stink about it.

Well -we shall see when it comes out. I think it'll be worth the wait :)
Per some of the discussions over at MW4online, they apparently have M$'s "blessings" - although MS can't officially endorse it....

Yeah, from the discussions at MekTek it appears that this is all being done with the full cognizance (and hopefully) blessing of the developer and publisher. At least one Cyberlore guy has been a part of the discussion. I agree about the timing, but I'm pretty confident they'll get it right.
