It took me till two weeks ago to figure out what the heck the alternate weapon did when your in the gunners seat.
Now that I see that you can guide a missle on to your target I find myself wanting to use this all the time. Like a new toy!
The pilots should all be aware of this and hold still for a base loaded with the enemy,or any other worthy target. and of course keep the gunners window in the general area of attack.
Last night while flying with Fuddy I hit my first tank with the guided missle. WOO HOO it was awesome! Fuddy held still on approach to a base. Had he been circling around and lots of movement I would not have had the shot.
I believe all pilots should be aware of this great asset on the helo and try to make use of it when possible.

On another note: when I'm in the gunners position I find that I look around from left to right and loose my bearings to where the front of the helo is. and I end up hitting the F9 key all the time to replace my view so I can use the guided missle.
Does anyone have any tips on helping to keep your bearings straight?

I would really like to hear some opinions on the use of the guided missle in the chopper. I'm new to the use of this and I feel this can be a very distructive weapon.

well, you can hit the c key and get a complete view without the heli being in your perifial vision. Only problem is everytime you go to the missle screen and come back, your back with the cockpit screen and have to hit c again.

Once you put the pipper on the target and pickle the TV bomb it's on it's own right? You can't guide it like the anti-tank rockets. Is that right?

I always thought the TV bomb was guided 'til I started shooting at moving targets. When the bomb arrived, the target wasn't there anymore. I've played around with the control settings and now I'm convinced that if the TV bomb can be guided, the means by which it can be done is extremely elusive.

When you are in Camera mode and you press the mouse button to fire, KEEP the button depressed and you can steer the missle towards its target.

It takes practice, and certainly isn't easy, especially if the pilot is moving the chopper around.

Indeed. TV missiles are guided, but they move fast and a shakey chopper makes for a difficult landing.

Apart from being in Armor (preferably AA)? Anti-Tank Missiles or the SAM sites.

The problem with Anti-Tank missiles is, obviously, the lack of control on the missile and the speed the chopper can move. SAM sites are good, but you are very vulnerable in them. If you can't get AA, then some of the rapid fire guns such as the LAV can work well.

The best solution, however, is another Chopper or Fighter Jet.

Also, as I discovered last night, the stationary TOW missile emplacements can work as well if the chopper is at a low enough angle to get a shot at it. Also, the support weapon, the standard and the unlock one, can scare them off. They can even bring them down if they're already previously damaged but, usually they just scare them off. Usually everyone working together as a team is effective against them too.

Teamwork? WTF is Teamwork? I'll have to look up that weapon tonight as I haven't used it yet. Sounds exciting!

I'm having a ton of fun getting the beans blasted out of me. I'm sure some of you have heard my mumblings on TS about how much fun. (btw: sorry about that, I'm trying to do better at knocking off the explicatives.) It is true, though. I'm having a blast.

This game is a nice change of pace for me. Raging Universe wasn't quite getting the juices flowing. And Star Kingdoms is just plain lame (Demensia, let me know if you get really land light and I'll suicide my KD for you. Or, you can just take it over if you want to suicide your current kd (and they don't catch you switching kd's).

I was talking about this on the TLB Bravo boards, in IMHO the best thing for handling Choppers are the machine guns (with 360 degree rotation) on jeeps and buggies. 2 of them travelling and working together can lay waste to Helis.
Being 2 they are harder to take out, and individually they are far mor mobile than AA vehicles.

AA vehicles suck, unless you are hidden, and you can't stay hidden for long. Jeeps beat them in this regard cus they are smaller and do not create a lock on beep.

SAMs work pretty good, but if the pilot is any good, he will blow your arse up well before you cause enough damage.

The best AA I've found is the Bradley. I've got 10 kills and only 2 losses in them vs. aircraft. That's about the only weapon I've got a >1 ratio on. You just have to get the tone and let them go. I space the shots over several seconds so they are not all fooled by any countermeasures. Then, whenever he starts to move close, I blast away with the cannon. They don't like to hang around when I'm doing that and rarely have the nads to stay on target.

BackPain, let me know and i'll teach you a little bit about team work. It's spelled TK. :)

Anyways, I had forgotten about the jeeps. Festus is right about that, two of them together can be deadly for choppers. Unfortunately some of them have a limited arc of fire that can make it difficult. However I would tend to think that parking them under pipes, shed, and other overhangs would be a good tactic as it could protect the jeeps from being fired on by the choppers when the chopper was outside of the jeeps arc of fire. I would think the Hummers would be especially effective for this tactic. Must get someone to try that with sometime.

I pulled this off the BF2 website forums. Typically, I forgot to grab the name of the poster.

"Helicopter flying (with a mouse)

w - Increase Torque
s - Decrease Torque
a - rotate left
d - rotate right
space bar or mouse 1 -fires rockets

The mouse is what you use to tilt the chopper. tilt foward and increase torque to move foward. The choppers will hover by themselves, its more getting use to the tilting and then being able to stop the tilting without over correcting. It's best just to start your own server (lock it with a pw) and play around in a chopper untill you get the feel. I think the best advice I can give is to up the senstivity of the mouse so that you don't have to make large movements. A little bit can go a long way. Get use to just moving around while in the chopper, then start to learn how far you need to tilt backwards to stop your foward momentum. I usally tilt back around 5-10 degrees and tap "w" a little to bring it to almost a complete stop, then level it out right as you come to a complete stop. now just keep the mouse still, and the bird level. Also remember that you don't need to always hold down "w" to keep yourself airborne. You will slowly lose alttitude while hovering, but that can be corrected with a simple tap of "w" every other second or so. Once you have basic movement down, try flying sideways and flying around a flag while keeping the guns pointed at it, almost makeing a circle around the flag.

Hope that helps."

Yep I love the buggies and jeeps with the 360 rotating guns. I've gotten pretty fast at hitting F2 when I get to the flag or see a helo.

Also what Dan said about the support weapon is true. You can shoot them down if they have damage or if several are shooting at it at the same time. Damage is damage it just takes a certain amount. I have shot them down but if you don't get the kill at least when they get enough damage they'll run off to get repaired. Someone told me I was waisting my time shooting at one, one night but you'd be suprised how many kills I've had on helos so I kept shooting. Can't wait to get the unlock support weapon. It causes more damage so that means faster kills woooooo hoooooooo 450 more points :)

Only downfall to the unlock support weapon is that it has a smaller clip and overheats faster. It'll overheat before it runs through a full clip so when i'm shooting a chopper i'll generally let it overheat and then reload while it's cooling down. Usually by the time i've reloaded it's cooled down enough to put several more rounds into a chopper.
