I know less about networking than I like. But it would seem to me that a request that is made to go off running somewhere else on the net would slow things down a small tad.

Sorry Arcane, know little to nothing about that stuff. Everyone knows I'm a true dummy when it comes to the little stuff. I did get rid of my siggy and I went in and turned on timestamp to see if that will help. Let you know.

Maybe from your perspective but then you probably can't multitask.

See that is exactly what HTTP 1.1 enabled for the wonderful world wide web (w4?). Instead of having to download each page in a serial fashion... it allows each item to spawn its own session. The beauty of that method is that you can paint the stuff that downloads the quickest without having to wait for the entire thing... or Heartburn's Siggy which is broken Man, if this was HTTP 1.0 then you wouldn't even be able to see this page right now... because Heartburn's Siggy is broken... Yep, that's right it wouldn't load (well, not 100% true... if you changed your browser's default behavior then it would paint the page until it came to Heartburn's BROKEN SIGGY and then it would stop).

So while it may seem like having to pull data from another location would be slower overall, to the educated and informed mind it is obvious that it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. In fact HTTP 1.1 is way faster overall in performance due to the multiple session streams it enables. Sound pretty crazy, I know, but all the same it is very true.

Now then... it seems that everything has its darkside. The same is true about HTTP 1.1. It is a bear to troubleshoot due to all those streams running all over the place. In the old days you had just a couple of servers to look at. Heck, now just to load this page, you actually go to over 8 different servers and request data!!! The worst cluprit is that British Columbia Canook that we all love to hate... yep, FESTUS. Since he hosts a number of OMO siggy's we make calls to his webspace every single time we display a page with one of them on it... even worse... if you don't have caching enabled... you call it every single time (you like downloading my siggy @ over 15k a pop when it is listed 6 or 7 times on page???).

So...

(Since some have been so pissy lately... the condesending tone of the above post was done in pure JEST... except where Aged's is concerned... then it was done with all malice intended)

[edit]HB I edited your post to put a space in all your .... otherwise it causes all the posts to go really wide... Arcane[/edit]

A 404 error in relation to your browser, is an indication the the page you are requesting can not be found.

That could mean a couple of things... it no longer exists or... you have mistyped the URL.
