are you going to make a freelancer server? i think that at least some of the club would play there, i know i would. i will buy the game this week, but i want to play the campaign first, and given my hectic travel schedule, it wil probably take me a couple of weeks to finish it. although if a server was up, i would log on just to establish a character presence.
also i dont understand your other comments about cheater/hacks on multi servers. since the game is only out today, these peeps are hacking the demo/beta version, which is not compatible with the release version, or am i wrong.

Hey WingCom,
Yes, I am going to host a server. It will be accessable via FQDN (freelancer.oldmenonline.net or freelancer.frontier-station.net).
The server's name is Frontier-Station. I'm pretty sure it will be password protected but I'll send you the password via PM if that is the case.
The cheating/hack is on the retail version, sadly. That is why DA is already working on a patch... not because the game as shipped needs it... because of the fricken cheaters. The worst thing is that the cheaters can mod the files on the client side and then log into your server and crash it. Think of the rammifications... boot someone for being a cheater and they come back an keep crashing your server...
I don't have a powerful enough system to really support more than about 16 simultaneous connections (CPU hogging server). I have been looking on ebay for a Dual P4 Xeon system or something equivalent but the prices are pretty high and with the economy I'm not sure I can foot the bill. Anyway that would probably allow upto 64 clients (the max is 128 but I don't think there is a server made that can handle it!). Smelly might have some spare parts for me to throw together a P4 1.8 system as well... (maybe 32 on that if it was OC'ed to 2.0 or better)
I won't be getting retail until Wednesday... the retail server will be online by 9:00 PM Wednesday night barring any unforeseen circumstances.

forget about the dual processor thingy, bargib over at TLR says he's not sure the software supports it.
yes, then with a private server, we could fly around, and gang up on ginko, aged, et al and steal their cargo, and run off to our private base muwahahahah
