Cadaver, we were wrong, the new BF2 map has been ported over to 2142 as well:
EA has released a new beta patch today for Battlefield 2142, bringing the game to v1.40. The patch adds the map Highway Tampa to the game as well as an autosave kit customization feature. Take a look:
The future Highway Tampa is here! Download the 2142 version of the newest Battlefield map brought to you by Intel and EA DICE then jump into the 1.4 beta. Featuring Titan and Dual Assault Lines this map focuses on classic Battlefield vehicle warfare with a futuristic twist. In Dual Assault lines each team can capture the enemies home base by controlling all of the neutral points. Whether you choose to skillfully coordinate your mechanized assault or dominate through overwhelming force Highway Tampa is the newest home of all out warfare.
Fixed an exploit that would allow commanders to call Orbital and EMP strikes before it had fully recharged.
The Clark RDX Shotgun can now detonate other nearby explosives.
EU Assault Rifle recoil and deviation have been slightly reduced.
Bianchi and Shuko LMGs recoil reduced.
Clark Shotgun rate of fire increased.
Added an autosave to kit customisations. After you customise a kit and spawn in with that kit, the customisation will be automatically saved until you change it and spawn in again. Note that you must spawn in with a particular kit for it to be saved.
Added a new map, Highway Tampa.

- whiche rifle?
This is the SCAR which kicks more like the Bauer, and isn't as accurate as the Krylov or Voss. This should make the SCAR more user friendly.

This says "beta". Does this mean if you install it you can't play on standard servers? Not that I can play on any but was just wondering.

The beta will be incompatible with the current version of the game. Here are the instructions I posted back during the NS beta. They should still be the easiest way to run both versions without re-installing.
This is the normal path to the "Battlefield 2142" folder C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts
Copy the Battlefield 2142 folder. You should have the two large folders: Battlefield 2142 and Copy of Battlefield 2142
Rename "Copy of Battlefield 2142" to something like "Vanilla2142"
Navigate into the Vanilla 2142 folder and find the exe and create shortcut. Rename the shortcut "Vanilla2142"
Finally move the shortcut to your desktop. You should have Battlefield 2142 shortcut (goes to original 2142 install) and a "Vanilla2142" When you click on the Vanilla2142 icon, your standard version of the game will launch.
Now when you apply the beta patch, it will patch your "Battlefield 2142" folder. It won't do anything to your "Vanilla2142" folder. You will launch the beta version of the game from your existing 2142 desktop shortcut.
Important STEP FOR APPLYING THE FINAL GA PATCH FOR YOUR VANILLA 2142
When the final version of the patch is available, it will patch whatever is in the Battlefield 2142 folder files. Delete the existing folder to remove the beta content. Rename your "Vanilla2142" folder back to "Battlefield 2142" Apply the patch and prepare to get pwned.

Downloaded it and tried it today. The Tampa map is f'ing huge; Titan mode plays a little bit like Taiba in that most of the action is going on at the central silo. Different from Taiba in that it is all flat (I know... Tampa, Florida, duh..) meaning that you don't have to stick to roads. Haven't tried assualt lines mode yet, but I'm anticipating that it will play somewhat like '73 Eastings (big wide open Desert Combat map, no cover).
There is a noticeable reduction in LMG recoil, true to their word. Maybe this means I will start playing Support kit again.
