The new Relic Warhammer Dawn of War II is going to be released in the near future. I realize that very few OMOs play RTS games anymore but here is the trailer. Worth watching at least. I am sure I will end up playing it.

Yep, while I didn't pick up the last two expansions for DoW (limited time to play), I am looking forward to DoW2. The engine should be more advanced than the CoH engine - hmmm... destructible terrain^2 .

I should add, that the gameplay trailer below it looks really good. Between this and Star Craft2, my RTS plate will be very full.

I am playing as AngryGeezer. Maybe soon we can get some games in. Kinketsu just got the game and he will be around to play also. Do you remember him from Company of Heroes? I really like that Relic has eliminated base building in DoWII. Fighting and leveling is nice.

Yeah, I remember Kin. Let me know when he is up to speed on the game or when you want to play. Vent is what I have installed at present.

An annoying review in that it tries to make a difference between MP and SP seem more significant than it is by labeling it as an Identity Crisis. While Ryan is positive overall, he is asking the wrong question: "The only question that remains is why Relic chose to develop Dawn of War II with such a drastic difference between the Space Marine limited single player campaign, and the more robust multiplayer."

The question should be: Why did Relic choose to leave out gameplay along the lines of the SP campaign out as an option for MP? It would be nice to have a battle over worlds against other players rather than just a battle over a single map. That SP does not offer campaigns for the Eldar, Orks, or Tyrianid, is a decent question, but not all that staggering.

I never get bothered by anything SP as I almost never play through a campain. To learn the other races I play skirmishes against the AI or practice games with friends. I love playing against people so I tend to stick to the MP side. Scope of battle tends to be small in nature to promote action and to reduce game time. Relic went away from the resource/base building model common in a lot of RTS games. I prefer tactical RTS games like CoH and DoW II games. Interesting article.....

Kinketsu and I played a few skirmishes against the AI last night and it was a lot of fun. I have a lot to learn. My unit control is terrible. I didn't use my hero very well and chose poor upgrades. I played the space marines last nigh but I plan to try the Elder soon.

Eldar are good. They have to be handled better than you would the Space Marines, however.

Ya. I played the first Dawn of War and the space marines are the most forgiving in my opinion. Back then I play the orks more than any other race. I have to admit it is nice getting back to thinking a little instead of just point and shoot.

Isn't that the same thing as playing against playing against the dreaded BOTS???

We only played against the AI to learn the controls and units. Now we play against real people online and win a lot more than we lose. We have only had the game a couple weeks so the learning curve is fast. Lots of fun.

Petri, you would be proud of our win loss record. I now play a lot more orks than space marines. Kinketsu is still hard core Tyranids. I need to send you a recording where Kinketsu and I won a game 2 to 0. The game was intense. (For those not familiar with the game, you win by controlling victory locations. There are three on each map and by capturing victory locaations and holding them you cause your opponents points to count down. If you can drop your opponents points to zero you win.) It is all about tactics and fighting. Each game take 10-20 minutes.
