I was clearing out a bunch of programs a couple nights ago and it appears I removed a program I needed very badly.
I noticed I had a problem when I tried to play BF2 (it happens w/ BF2, Spec Forces, and BF2142). I loaded the game with no problem, but when I tried to join a server it would crash to desktop before it even started loading.
I putzed around with it a bit and decided to reinstall the game. Except, that when I started teh reinstall, it would start to open the installer and, once again, crash to desktop.
So, I decided to uninstall the games. They would not uninstall. So, I decided to delete the game files/folders from my Progam Files (THAT worked). Except, that when I tried to do the install again, I still had the same problem.
Now, when I go into add/remove programs, BF2 et al, are still there, but they now show only having about 12 meg of files each. I tried uninstall again to get rid of them, but it still won't uninstall. And, it won't install.
Long story, short question: How do I get rid of the rest of the games so I can reinstall?
btw, I was able to install BF1942 and can uninstall other programs, so whatever the problem is, it is limited to BF2.
btw2, one of the programs I uninstalled originally was the admin program for BF2 that lets you kick people from the game. (Might have shoulda said this sooner.) If you recall, it was given to several of us way back when we setup the server, but I never used it, so thought I could safely get rid of it.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I don't think the BF2 monitoring sofware is related. It sounds like you may have a registry error. I've had problems with sound card drivers screwing things up but I don't think that's the problem here. A good registry cleaner should be able to remove keys and give you a chance for a fressh install. Can someone recommend a good freeware/shareware progarm? I use System Mechanic and it works well.
The 12Megs may be your user settings and should not interfere with a clean install.
hope this helps

Backpain did you remember to remove the "Battlefield 2" folder in "My Documents". A lot of time just removing that folder and letting the game reinstall it solves some problems.

Not good.
Can you restore the files from the Recycle bin?
BF2 uninstall most likely will not work since you've fubar'd the BF2 folder.
Here's my input, try to install in safe mode.
FYI, when you have crashing issue, it usually means you have to many cache folders. This is the location for Vista, will be slightly different for XP.
C:\Users\urcomputername\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
Delete them all, and start over, then can get corrupt over time. If you can manage to restore your BF2 folders, I'd give this a try.

I had the same problem, went to the support section at EA and found the fix. It is the old folder issue I think.

That did it, medicated. Big Thanks! Very nice step by step walk through to delete all the files.
Reinstall went off without a hitch and I got a good round 54 points in my first game (which I never seem to be able to pull off).
Thanks all.

BackPain ~ now that you got it, try stopping by Bloody Company on Wednesday nite.
Nosey has gotten quite a few 0M0's to stop by, and two weeks ago they outnumbered the BCO's for a round or two (BCO's sure love there food! =) anyways, we try to keep a fair server and it usually gets going pretty good.
