I guess you're officially old when just don't get into the music of the current era.
I can't vouch of the country genre it all sounded the same to me since it's inception, I'm talking about Rock and it's current form.
Today's rock will never live up to it's predecessors because it's just not that good. The singer is barking in the mic so fast and so loud you can't even understand what the hell they're saying. Aren't any guitar solo's anymore? If they're not barking in the mic they are crying in bed about some chick and sounding like a wuss.
I can't name one band that was formed after 2000 that's worth a crap, sure there are a few that might have one hit here or there but most of the time they are ripping off stuff form the classic rock artist.
Name one current band that's on par with Led Zepplin or Pink Floyd. I guess I'm just stuck in the the 70's and 80's.
I guess I just joined the ranks of the Fuddy duddy's (no offense to Fud)

The new AC-DC album is rockin. Godsmack's last album kicked arse too. Im still true to my earliest convictions. Rock & Roll rules. Must Have DVD's Led Zeppelin's Double DVD Rush, R30 Pink Floyd, Live In Berlin and several more.
Big Alert! The rights for Led Zeppelin just released this month. You can listen to their music on download jukeboxes. As well as download it to your favorite devices.

That's another thing, all those groups you named sound great live. Not very many of todays bands can say the same. Godsmack is ok but will they still be playing it on the radio 10 years from now?

Not sure but their last album is a 10 year aniv. edition. Godsmacks last album comes with a 40 min jam session. Has a small audience and is a very good show. You dont realise how well they play till it gets more personal like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd or even Tesla get with a crowd. All of which are great musicians. Anyway the "Good Times Bad Times" album by Godsmack is a decade of their best and comes with a 40 min DVD concert for free.
Think ill watch it now...

I can only assume that the following bands will not "fit" most of your styles, but I would have to say they are on par. And yes, they are not the "rock" bands of the 60s and 70s for sure, but the thread says "Todays Music Sucks". I agree with that to a certain degree, in that, we get lots of junk with some really good stuff mixed in. I actually think that American Idol has raised the bar for the music industry over the past few years. Weird sounding I know, but look at acts that would never have been found before like Daughtry (sp?).
Amazing talents can be found today like Amy Winehouse. Yes, she may very well self destruct and die an early death (as did many 60s and 70s talents), but her first two CD's are really great music. Again, maybe not your cup of tea, but a great talent non the less. Hand to god I told my wife almost a year before it happened, that Amy Winehouse would win at least one Grammy award. Sure thing, she did, and Grammy awards really have nothing to do with marketing or record sales as do many other awards.
Other bands that pop to mind at the moment:
Dave Mathews Band. Great songs and even greater live! Barenaked Ladies. Same, great songs and fantastic live. Coldplay. Again, great songs and live concert DVD's I have seen are really epic.
There are more, but just some examples for you. Also from my days (the 80's) you have bands like U2, Petshop Boys, etc....
Again, I know it's not most of your bags, but music is music and if your talking about things in a blanket matter, then yes there are great bands today too. ;)
As a side note, I just saw Fleetwood Mac and AC/DC concerts in High Def and they were both really good. The guy from AC/DC had no voice left, but it was still pretty damn good.

When I say today, I mean anything formed after 2000. If Godsmack is having it's 10 year then, I guess that leaves them out. I think some the bands bloody mentioned wereed form before 2000. Doughtery ss a good singer but his band was made up from a bunch of studio musicians hacks.
I got hooked on AC/DC when I saw them live during that tour that featured the very popular "Thunder stuck" song,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlejfA5NCbQ Angus young is amazing! From the book I read on them he never did drugs, he's just naturally amp'd up all the time. Best Live group I've seen Was U2, Bono is just unbelievable.
So what group that release an CD after 2000 is good live? I just may not be aware, It just sure seems like ROCK is in a slump. (Dragon Force has some good guitars but meh..)

Fossil, you contradict yourself. You complain that today's music has no guitar solos, but then you also complain about the bands ripping stuff off from classic rock artists. It's hard to come up with a single guitar line now that doesn't sound like something that's been played a thousand times before.

Good guitar licks are timeless. If the frequency stimulates, the date of creation is irrelevant. Ive said the same of new music several times and found its just a matter of time till we go back to the music my dad said was a passing phase. My reply to my dad was....this music will still be popular when I die. And it will. My 19 year old son listens to the same stuff I did with the exception of some country he likes. But country is moving the same direction too. Cryin in your beer is not nearly as popular as it once was. Speaking of Angus...I helped carry him around the arena of UT Martin back in the late 70s during a concert there. Great solo and ol times. Anyone ever actually head him speak? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eky-JBsMclQ&NR=1

Having seen Shinedown in concert 3 times I'd have to say there was no ripoff at all. This video has a little girl holding a picture of the writer of the song. A tribute to a dead rock and roll legend. And the best rendition other than the original ever done. Shinedown is gonna be around as long as they can pump out songs as well as they have. I have all the albums. A great new band.
