The multiplayer beta for DoWII is currently out. I spent a couple hours last night feeling the waters for how the game works by playing against the AI. I am not certain if it will have the same Strategic component that DoW: Soul Storm had, but it would be very nice if it did since it was very Total War: Shogun esque. DoWII is being designed by Relic (Homeworld fame for whom we OMO can thank since it is the game we were founded in). The graphics are very crisp, more miniature like and not as cartoony as they were in DoW.
There appears to be less focus on building this time around. Capturing points to gain resources is the main point. It appears there are no building units, but you end up building off captured points (so far, supplemental reactors for the power points you capture). This does free up the game for you to focus on moving your troops into strategic locations. Zooming in on hand to hand combat is quite revealing of a rather bloody affair.
So far, against the AI, the game is challenging. I’ll try against real people tonight.

I've been looking forward to this game, I'm an all around Warhammer fan so this us right up my alley. Hearing that it's Total War like really has me looking forward to it. I hate RTS games have building involved! or at least just that aspect of it.
When is the release date? I'd love to play RTS games against the OMO again.

Dawn of War: Soul Storm, was most like Total War. I have yet to see the campaign system in Dawn of War II.

Did someone say RTS?????? I think Relic learned a lot when they produced Company of Heroes. I am looking forward to giving DoWII a try. I will look into the beta.

Well I have the retail ver and played a couple vs comp. Looks good at first glance. The login system uses LIVE which sucks for me since about 4 bil gamertags are already in use. I ended up with Hive Oldbugger as my gamer tag cause even oldbuggeromo was already taken. Id like to know who the hell has that name.
Does any of the beta players know what the hell nids are suposed to do vs vehicles? I cant seem to find any anti tank unit or upgrade.

No clue. Since the game is now out, I should buy it (thought it was coming out in March for some reason).

Bought it off steam last night. I'll be installing it and giving SP a whirl tonight. I should indulge in some MP over the weekend.
Will be on Vent when I do so.
