The good!
I love getting a travel power early! I remember in WoW I was overjoyed at getting a lame ass mount at level 40. Flying is very enjoyable, it's fast and fun.
I love how you can pick powers from different class sets. far as I know this is a first.
PvP combat is fast and crazy but still fun if you have the right build. some just don't work at all with the pace of the matches.
The customization of toons, so many choices, I didn't see a duplicate the whole time I was in game.
The bad:
I hate how they force you to do the tutorials for every character.
I hate how they make you craft an item to get out of a zone, I see the reasoning, but come on!
The missions are the same as every other MMO, come on do something new!
Lack of team up missions, I can't say how it is at later levels I going off of what I've seen so far.
The ugly.
I honestly wonder why people pick the toons they do, I saw some down right ugly toons!
The graphics aren't all that great, but after fighting in some of the big battles I can understand why they had to tone them down a bit because of lag.
Over all the game should keep me entertained for the next 6 months or so until the next MMO comes down the pike.

I pretty well agree with what you have said here Fossil.
Good:
Travel powers are very high on the list of "cool factor" for the game. Each one seems to have some great fun factor to them, as well as some nice uses. It's also nice that you get a second travel power down the road.
The pace of the game is great fun (fast, fast, fast). Even the PvE seems much faster pace than most games.
The customization is a huge plus. From costumes, to size, shape, etc of toons, as well as all the powers. The naming factor is great too where people can have any name they want.
The look and feel of the game is also great. It looks like you would expect a super hero game should look. That comic book look is great for both the feel of the game, as well as the lower lag factor.
Instancing on one common sever is also good, and the system seems to work great. It puts you in the instance your friends or group are in, or you can look for an instance with low or even high numbers of players if you wish. When friends were not on I found myself going to the higher population servers.
Graphics are actually very good when you take into account the look they are going after. The effects (tunable to your liking for color is nice too) are very cool and I was amazed at how well the effects held up in the big epic bot battles during the end of beta event. There were times when we had 20 or more players blasting away at a bot and you could still see many, if not all the effects going off.
Bads:
Same old questing and resource gathering that you see in any MMO. At least there seems to be a story behind most quests.
Sound is OK at best. This could be due to my Realtec card that some have said is having issues with the game, but not sure.
Chat system is OK, but not great.
Start zone repeat for every freaking toon. Worse is the betas 2 zones only at finish of the start area. I really hope they have some more zones to get to fast. The start zone isn't a huge deal, as I can do it in 15 min. and get to a start area by lvl 4 easy now.
Ugly:
Not much ugly about the game for me except the craptastic graphics on the equipment, components, etc. that go in your bags. Really crap stuff, but that's pretty minor and the fact they have the hover over info really helps.
For me I think the big reason the game draws me in so much is the creativity that you can use, as well as the fun of seeing what others do. I spent an hour or more running around the big city yesterday and just looked at peoples heros, names, and some of their nemesis toons that were running around.

Well I gave the beta a shot but being an RTS and sometimes FPS gamer I just didn't get the blood pumping adrenaline rush playing Champions Online that I was used to in the other two genre. The game played more like an adventure game rather than being fast and tactical. The new generation of RTS games have really spoiled me. Champions Online was like a very slow single player campaign in a FPS, but rather 3rd person in perspective, with bad targeting. LOL Champions is the first MMO I ever tried so I am really bummed out that it wasn’t more exciting. However, I will try other MMOs in the future to see if it is the entire genre or just this game in particular.

Compared to WoW, the most popular MMO, champs is absolutely heart pounding in the first 5 levels lol.
MMO's are more about character development, teamwork and social interaction. Instead of an instant rush it's more of long term commitment. Marriage vs One night stands if you will. I'll consider you my confirmed bachelor friend then geezer, when you decide to tie the knot, come and join us for a cup of tea on the patio.

I am all for the long term game commitment but playing an MMO seems like the kind of commitment needed to be married to a female Russian olympic weight lifter! LOL Not a lot of long term excitement there! LOL! I need something more than a nice personality!!!!! LOL

I know what your saying Geezer, there is a huge gap between the pace of most MMOs and FPS (and I guess RTS, even though I am not a huge fan of those). But like Fossil said, it is more of a long term gaming than the others. You find yourself pulled into the MMOs because of the development and the exploration factor. I tend to be somewhat short stayed on games and games like WoW, AoC, and other MMOs tend to keep my interest for much longer than the average game. Champions is a good pace and gets faster / better and the levels go on.
MMO speeds and depths
WoW is slow (except for some of the PvP battle grounds and those are great). Very deep game. Age of Conan is fast on a PvP server and sloooow on a PvE server. Game is not very deep and looses people fast. Champions Online is medium to fast (depending on what your doing). No idea on just how deep the game is, but the customization and many options make it repeatable even at lower lvls.

FYI,
The full release today has changed a number of things. Travel is much slower, health bots are wacked worse than before, and ncps seem much harder to kill. These were somewhat confirmed in zone chat, as others were saying the same things over and over.

Seems like there was a broad based def nerf of about 40% on all buffs and passives. Healing and regen got hit as well. Mob damage is higher now too. Easy mode = off.
