Oh yeah. NCSoft games are notorious for PVP.
I'm playing on a private server. The guys that maintain the server are the same ones that write the code.

http://infiniteaion.com/index2.php?
Basicaly, you d/l the downloader client from NCSoft, install aion, then download this .exe file from the infinite aion website and put it in the Aion folder. run it and it points to the private server.

Is this free to play after you buy it, or is it pay to play as well as $50 for the game?

No, you pay to play after the first month. Guildwars is the only game at NCSoft I know of that is free to play after initial purchase.
Now, I have the collectors edition of Aion, but they gave it to me for free since I was a subscriber of Tabula Rasa when they pulled the plug on that game. So I only pay monthly.

I guess I should rephraise what I said. The people that run the Infinite Aion server are the same ones that develop the code for the private server program, not employees of NCSoft.
The game is 49.99 for acticvation (buying the game) and 14.99 per month for subscritpion.

Ah, not unlike the WoW server.
I know people have been trying to get a Tabula Rasa server going, but the client to server encryption is killing people's attempts. Heard anyone getting one up?

Wouldn't suprise me. The wow server was easy courtsey of the addons that you can get. Lineage 2 private servers only exist because of server code that was leaked oh so many years ago from China.
The Aion private server code has existed since the game was in closed beta and is evolving fast. They still haven't replacated all parts of the game tho.

KayJay, would you happen to know if Tabula Rasa has a private server anywhere?
