I am purchasing a company in Honolulu. We sell pipe and fittings mainly for waterworks/sewer construction as well as landscape supplies (i.e. pipe, sprinklers, lighting, etc.) The system they now have is a DOS based system that is run from their home office in San Diego. I worked with this system for 2 years and it really sucks so we will not be using their system, nor will be place a server in Honolulu to run it.
We are looking for a program we can use that is windows based as window based programs are easier to learn especially when you have new people trying to learn the system.
Right now, there are approx. 15 individual desktops that are tied into this system. They are able to get onto the internet as individual units. What I need to do is get a server up somewhere maybe even Hawaii that will handle the program and be able to log onto the network from any computer, anywhere. I know in todays world that's not really an issue. What we will need the program to do is:

1.) Generate a complete invntory report.
2.) Inventory ordered and derived from existing PO's.
3.) Job specific PO's/worksheets the engineers can "build" bids for customers.
5.) Complete pricing schedule based upon different pricing multipliers.
6.) Auto inventory ordering system complying with resupply of existing available inventory.
7.) POS capabilities to be used at counter or during, after delivery.
8.) Timeclock/all payroll functions.
9.) Open order tracking.
10.) Accounts payable/recievable functions.
11.) Expense/sales program that will track sells and expenses and place in area budgets.
12.) Budget tracking. (P&L capabilities)

...and several other items I'm sure I've missed but will need to run a very busy business. The challenge here is freight expenses and time to get ordered items to Hawaii. Everything we sell will come across the water. For example, we order 20000' of 16" pipe, will usually take a week or so to produce in Texas. Shipped to California or Washington State, placed on a barge and shipped to Hawaii. This process averages 4-6 weeks.

First of all, do any of you have any suggestions as to what Windows based program could handle most or all of this? Second, do any of you have any experience setting up and running a server that would be available to handle the day to day operation/maint. of the server and help keep everyone up and running?

I know this is very vague. However, it will be a couple weeks before I can get over there and find out exactly what our needs are and what direction as to an IT person we are going to take. Just trying to have guns loaded...

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Mahalo

Well I have a nephew that needs a job. He's a little slow but you could give him a notepad and a cell phone and lock him in a closet with a 12 pack of Bud.....then put a sign on the door stating "IT Room, Do Not Enter"

No, Wilson isn't in Hawaii...I don't think. If they are they don't have a big footprint..
