So with the Playstation network down for the last 3-4 weeks I have been playing very little Fifa 11. No WoW, Rift, etc either, so I have been messing with different games.

One really simple (and sorta dumb on the surface) game I started goofing with is Minecraft. Everyone has heard of it cause it's been so popular since the maker started Alpha testing many moons ago. The game is now in Beta (means you need to buy the game to play now, but you get access to beta and all further testing along with the full release this fall).

The game is simple and fun and so addictive. You get the idea of the game from the name. You mine (for resources) and Craft (make stuff from resources). There is PvP, PvE, and all kinds of different game play depending on what server you play on. In single player, you simply mine and craft during the day and then either hide or fight all the creatures at night (they only come out at night).

If any of you happen to play Minecraft, hit me up with a PM or reply here so we can find each other on a server.

P.S. I have a small server running off my system that I could give access to a couple players.

I play it. It's great fun and my kids enjoy it. I run a server on my LAN so we can all build and explore together.
The mods and editing tools are community based and most are quite good.

You running any mods?

I have a basic server set up on my LAN and have one other person that connects via IP. Only mod I have used is an MCEdit terrain editor.

Using MCPatcher and the Dokucraft_1.8 light mod. Planning on playing around with the Industrial mod later on.

I was going to ask if anyone played this, My two young girls and my wife and I play but not all together. I was thinking about renting a server so we could all build together and share resources. My wife started playing last year but I took one look at the graphics and dismissed right away but since my two girls started playing I got in on the action and have more fun with a game than I've had in a long time because it allows so much creativity.

We just started downloading the painterly packs recently with 100% customization, what a blast.http://painterlypack.net/customizer.php

Send me your IP and I'll join your world sometime bloody, as "JJBuffy" my wife's handle. (yes we all share the same user name heh)

I added you to the white list as JJBuffy. PM'ed you my current IP. I think my IP stays pretty static, but if you can't get in at some point just PM me for the new one. Thinking of renting a server too. Maybe if a couple of us want to go in on one we could pool resources. I like the idea of white listing servers too cause then no jerks.

We have no protections on stuff, so rules are just respect stuff you didn't build. :)

Thanks for letting me in , the island I claimed is about a day's walk due east of your towns bridge. I started putting up reference markers before I logged.
I got a cool project in the making hope you plan on keeping the sever up for a while.
My family loves your town and ship by the way!

plan on keeping it up for some time. I may end up renting a server (instead of hosting from my PC) if we get a couple more people, however I can just transfer the entire map over to where ever the server ends up.

sounds good, once I get my town established lets make a mine cart railway connecting all of our cities.

An elevated pushcart railway about 3 levels above sea level so the critters don't get in they way would be my suggestion, keeping it as level as possible to cut down on the number of booster rails.

I love choo choo trains!

Oh yes. The current map on the server started as a single player map I simply copy pasted into the server folder I have.

This game makes it pretty easy to do a lot of things.

Fossil and I made some towers for reference to get between "bloodyville" and "fossilville". I started the rail tunnel (going to build a subway instead of above ground rail) on my side.

It looks like I'm going to rent a server and move the full map over to it. I will post/send the new connection info once we are ready. :)

Also, dumb question but how do you copy a multiplayer map to play in single player? I know how if the server is on my PC, but can't seem to find anything listed while connected to an outside IP.

Since this original we have had enough traffic to warrent moving the server off my PC and on to a dedicated server. So this AM, I decided to rent a dedicated Minecraft server. We are in the process of migrating over to the new server over the next day or so. Once we are set up I will be sending out the new IP info, etc. (new server will be running the exact same world we currently have as of 9 am this morning). Note that anything added from 9 am today until the new server goes live will be missing. In other words, don't build anything you want until the new server is ready. ;)

Let me know if your a MC player and want to be whitelisted to join the server. :D

Look in the folder where the server executable is. Basically copy the entire World folder containing the level.dat file to the server. The level.dat folder is the key and, if you use an editor, what you edit too.

Weird cause that's how I find the stuff locally (on my PC), but when I play on another multiplayer server I can't see where it's showing any new folders (either in my MC executable location or in the user/..../appdate/roaming/.minecraft folder).

BTW, server is ordered and just waiting to get our map uploaded and running correctly. I have already whitelisted everyone that sent me player names, so once we get map on we are good to go. May be tomorrow.

Too funny the stark contrast between the super neat quaint fishing village bloodyville is compared to the tacky Vegas tourist trap fossilville is going to be.

I tried to get it as far away as possible so not to be an eyesore. when you get done with your end of the track make an above ground marker and I'll complete it to fossilville and make it go above ground and underwater. Starting to get some more iron ore from digging around now, so i'll start putting it into tracks and booster tracks once I get some gold.

I'm going to have to get another account so my daughter can play, she'll make a town past mine, She knows to respect other peoples builds and will mine and harvest on her side of the map.

Thanks again for setting this up bloody, it's going to fun!

btw feel free to take down the sand towers I put up. your stone towers look much much better!

Just an update for you guys.

The new server is up, but we are having issues getting the map loaded correctly. I took my local copy of the server down so that you don't waist your time building something cool and then not have it saved. The version of our world is from 9 am this morning, so you shouldn't notice any difference at all once it's rolling again.

I have the new IP and have you all white listed, but I am holding off sending the IP out until I can get things working correctly. Hopefully tomorrow. :)

Cool!,

Send me your player name or just post it here. That way I can white list you for the server.

And BTW, server is now up and running the map. Sending a PM to everyone with the IP.

IP = 72.9.151.22

Remember, you must be whitelisted to join, so PM me or post your player name here.
