I haven't done any racing in about the last 10 years. I liked it a lot and was racing with a regular group 3-4 times a week.

I was kind of down on the iRacing people back in the day (I think they were called First then) because they were aggressively suing modders - in particular a guy that was doing a prototype mod and I was really looking forward to racing a Mazda 787B.

I'm interested, but I'll let you be the guinea pig.

What're are you racing?

... now I just have to remember where I left my paint schemes.

LOL Pacey.

So I've been running Grid, Grid2, Dirt 3, Shift and Shift2. I haven't spent any money on the newer ones but like I said I sure do miss the old days when we all drove together. Yeah I remember the days Pace wrecked us on Talladega and Daytona too! :-)

Yeah, Pace's prowess for swapping paint was impressive for sure, but Batty was a legend at creating scrap metal on the track.

I checked out some Youtube videos of iRacing. It looks pretty familiar and fun. Let me know if you give it a try.

The main thing holding me back from iRacing right now is that the rookie class appears to be an exercise in frustration. I'll definitely chime in here if I decide to make the jump

LOL now that is funny.

I keep looking and on Steam you can get like 31% off a year sub... I'm just not sure I can be that dedicated. You have to progress through the licenses to get to the great touring cars or stock cars.

While the Miata looks fun... that wouldn't last for long.

Would be super fun to race with you guys again though on a regular basis like we used to.

Yeah, satellite is great for throughput, but the latency is high - really bad for games (particularly racing).

iRacing is offering 50% at the moment. I'm not sure my wheel would still work (I've heard it does) and my current desk has a fairly thick top (clamping might be an issue).

I think I could move up on ovals pretty well. I raced clean, but was usually pretty slow.

Round courses, I sucked at those.

Still ... moving up to at least a D shouldn't be too hard.

How about riding along with Ayrton Senna on a qualifying lap for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Amazing

Well - $50 for a year of racing isn't bad. What do you think?

I'm tempted. I need to do some H/W inventory to see if I can run it well. Other than potential H/W expenses, I think it's pretty cheap.

What's the earliest time of day you could be online?

FYI - I'm going to be using my old machine which is an old x58 chipset with an i7-975 with a GTX 670. It runs all the other games I referred to pretty well. Probably would suck with some of the brand new games but iRacing keeps the graphic requirements down a bit it seems.

I'll work something out with you. I have some free time for a couple months so I'm sure I can negotiate an hour or two each nite that is east coast friendly.

I'm currently running the integrated graphics. The best graphics card I have isn't even supported any more - at least for Windows 10. I haven't seen anything in SC either as a result.

My wheel (MS Sidewinder FF) hasn't been supported for years, but I somehow managed to always get it to work before.

Back to more "just because" stuff...

How many of you knew that Black Magic Woman is a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song?

By the way, Gypsy Queen and Oye Como Va are covers too.

Nice knowledge Aged! Great pulls from the vault.

If there is a driving/racing game/sim out there that has something along the lines of old 70's style point-to-point road rallies... sign me up... point me the way...whatever. I want to take a Firebird down some two-lane blacktop, with no clue where the next destination will be, until I hit the checkpoint.

Ok, I admit it. I like Fail Videos. Maybe it's because I watched a lot of Three Stooges as a kid.
