OK...it's out.
Having played the demo I was wanting to see if they have made any improvements.
I've always been a sucker for the storyline and I don't think they are letting anyone down with what I've seen in my first couple of missions.
I will say that whomever was responsible for the cutscenes REALLY loves what they are doing. So much so that I'm 3 or 4 missions into the story and I want to slap the guy in the face.
I get it.....they want to tell a story, but I want to play the damn game! SO MANY CUTSCENES. SO SO MANY. Maybe I'm just impatient in my old age but jeez Louise give me a break! It might just be me but I'm finding that cutscene after cutscene is breaking my immersion, my enjoyment of the actual game. I am however putting up with it and not hitting ESC when given the chance.
I decided to give the new and updated control scheme a try and while I think they've improved it since the demo I still find myself cursing and swearing at times.
You use SPACE to switch between in game and tactical views but with the volume of objects in your field of vision I often find the view changing without my doing anything. It seems that when you zoom out or move too far in any direction and "pass thru" an solid object it changes views. Maybe I will get used to it.
I'm going to tough it out in the new scheme rather than the traditional simply in order to give it a chance to "grow" on me, AND because it's been so long since I played the classic control scheme is basically forgotten (I just have memories of it being more seamless).
Selecting groups is also clunky. yes you can just draw around what you want but sometimes when I do that I don't want certain classes to be in the group but it's unclear how to remove them easily. I thought just putting a small X in the pictogram of each unit would be a easy solution but that's not there.
With the smaller viewing area due to large objects and standard speed of the game seems awfully fast so you either have to pause a lot or slow the game down.
I'm also unclear but it seems that while I can pause the game at any time, I'm unable to issue orders......that can't be I must be missing something.
Anyhow.....my first impressions and I thought I'd share them with you. Anyone else got anything to say?

I’ve been busy lately. I know, too busy to play a game I’ve been waiting on for years???
Maybe I’m getting old…

Not hooked yet, but I'm still hoping to get the game dialed in a little and see what happens. It's ...OK, I guess

I started on the campaign. I see what you mean Festus - so many cutscenes.
I'm still working on getting the muscle memory needed to play the game with the new controls.
I'm like you, Nose, not hooked yet, but ploughing forward.

I like the game but I think its because of nostalgia. Like you all it hasn't grabbed me like its predecessors. Heck even Deserts of Kharak had me more engaged. The thing is I'm not sure what it is about HW3 that has left me with a 'meh' impression. It is a good game. I wonder if it's a bit of too little too late and been there done that.

I know that they pre-sold a lot of copies of HW3, but this page pretty much sums up how hard it has failed;

I’ve found the cut scenes to be so intrusive and annoying, that I abandoned the campaign for the time being and tried some skirmishes.
I’m getting bitch slapped … even on easy. (I’m not seeing much difference between easy and standard.) I can’t get the ships to do what I want. I have trouble finding ships I’ve built.
I really want to like it, but it’s not cooperating.
And, even if I get it figured out, it won’t matter if nobody’s online playing it.

I’m getting the sense, based on not seeing much here (at least nothing particularly positive), that HW3 has been determined to be a bust.

I stopped playing when the missions had wreckage you had to navigate thru and haven't felt the urge to pick it up again.
Very disappointed in the game. The originals were all about wide open spaces and 3 dimensional combat. This game..... nope. The grandeur is AWOL and the intrusive immersion breaking cut scenes were just too much.
The spirit of the game is in there somewhere but it's broken. It's a real shame to see the game end this way.

I tried to like it too. I really like the models I have. I guess I'll just look at them on my desk and pretend that HW3 was as good as they look. Pretty depressing really. Homeworld was a staple for OMO. I'm with Festus... shame to see the game end this way.

I see they are making some changes, some of which I'm glad to see, but I think it's too little too late.
They mention a seasons pass that might be entangled with all this, and if that's true it's just another disappointment. RIP HW3

I got the impression that they’re just trying to finish up what they’ve got and hope for the best.

The game is dead. The publisher killed it (they killed Homeworld Mobile before release which was much better IMO than HW3) once they realized they would not make money. And Steam forced them to issue the DLC people paid for as well (or they get refunds - yay steam).
The story was weak, like old tea watered down by vegan, PBA free, and cruelty free water they drink. The first clue should have been that the noble banana ship was laid on its side, as if ready for eternal rest. C'est le vie.
