Posted - May 01 2003 : 00:35:48 Sorry about the BCOM Channel Retread. I need to start the server a specific way to get it to add the channel as the default. Problem is that folks keep joining it then I can't restart it.
So... I'll be having some vacation soon and I'll lurk until I find a good time... then I'll create an IC channel that will stay even after BCOM Server reloads.
Remember weedhopper... patience is a virtue. Good things come to those who wait. And my favorite - a quote from Aged "Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow" |

Posted - May 01 2003 : 00:11:35 Yea man I want to be the First to welcome you from the IC gaming community (of those of us that still play). Me and Vintage also play AA but not in quite a while. Ive noticed the quick kill before too. Once you kill one, take his weapon...they are always stronger. If on look for JoBrudda or D_Chosen1 that will be us. Just remember to have fun when you play
I like the room idea, but our IC rooms keep falling out every time the server resets. So its probably inaffective...and I hope the regular night wont be a tuesday...forgot to mention we have another we like to bring in hes been play with us for months and has has been asked. Timeless will post moreand Smelly well you all now Smelly will help us get it set up |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 21:43:06 I like your efforts and willingness to keep coming back, 'lunatech. I've got no problem with you at all, becoming a member. I'm about a month out form taking delivery on a new system and S.O.L. until then in the gaming-n-naming business.
Guess I'm jealous that I can't give some abuse...er...suggestions as to a good name when you come in the group.
If I wanted conflict, I'd do like my soon to be 5 yr old does on his pre-school playground when he is feeling his oats. I'd say, "o.k. who wants a piece a me!" at the top of my lungs to my 'mates. (The little bugger really does this, too.) |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 15:41:24 Well, I'm new to AA. There do seem to be quite a few maps, with all types of different objectives. My biggest problem is that I *suspect* the use of a lot of cheats. Can't prove it, of course, but I find quite a few things very suspicious - like I can pump a 3 round burst into someone point blank and they don't die - but they hit me and I die right away...
Still fun, just frustrating. As to Ghost Recon, haven't played it yet - but I did get a copy of it with my new vid card - I'm waiting for my new machine I'll be getting this week to install anything new, however. |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 15:37:10 DLT,
I used to play AA but it got old after about 2 months. I understand that there have been some upgrades and map releases that really add to the game. Could you let us know what you think?
Hey, if you like AA what about Ghost Recon or my FAVORITE... Operation Flashpoint!!!!

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 14:50:25 Well, I didn't take any offense to it - but I also didn't mean to cause any problems. Heck - I'd be happy just to get in a few games with you guys - I'm sick of how competitive the online gaming thing has gotten - so many games where if you aren't cheating, you don't have a chance (yeah, winning can be a big deal, but if ya can't win it on your own, what's the point?)
Anyway - yeah - I would definately like to stick around and get to know you guys and game with you - we seem to be a definate minority anymore.. both age-wise and ethics-wise.
BTW - anyone play America's Army? |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 14:47:19 I like this guy, he sucks up real good!
I see no reason to hide this post at all. Nothing truly nasty has been said, and its been an interesting read. Another case of how easily the written word can be misunderstood.
As for naming ceremonies, I LOVE THEM! Bcom, or voice chat, IMHO has only added to the fun. Nothing better than the sound of beer shooting out someones nose when you come up with a real humdinger of a name. :)
I even think we should consider a change in our policy whereby someone is initiated, and if there are fewer than 4 OMO present, they attend a regularly scheduled naming ceremony (ie. every tuesday night as needed). That way, maybe we can get 5, 6 or more OMO to log into Bcom and we can jazz it up, knock names around with the new guy until something clicks.
If everyone knew that, for instance, Tuesdays from 9pm til 10 pm EST were naming nights, I bet peeps would check in just to be a part of it. Could even make a channel in Bcom for it. :) Heck, maybe a specific date isn't necessary, just the channel. That way if you saw people in it, you could just drop in and join the fun.
Just a thought. |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 13:16:47 I've been in this club for 50 years or more and I have never read a more polite and apologetic post in all my years I am totally convinced that this broken hip chap can only help to restore our tatered image in the online gaming community at large. I didn't even follow what all the hub ub was about, but I would like to share a story of my own if I may........I was N_Armstrong before I was given this name but some schmoe. I recall how fun it was when I joined this bunch, however it wasn't for many many months till I learned of the OMO boards. Then OMG..........the bickering and backstabing and real silly stuff that was going on there made me wish I never was exposed to it all. Eventually I got used to it though and now I just read some and post on occation. Maybe we should hold this post back from brand new members for a short time. |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 12:20:59 Thanks for your considerations, ex-BrokenHip. I say for just being so polite we should let him in :) Also, you will soon see we banter around in these boards all the time. Please don't think you started anything. I'll give you a bit of history what this is all about.
When the group first started, voice comms were just starting to be used in online gamming. We all got to know each other from typing in game lobbies. Our early initiations were a wisper to someone asking if they were over 35 yrs old. If they said yes we would ask them if they would like to join our club. From there we started a private room where we would all go to and just have some info questions with each other. Some ? were to confirm age(you wouldn't believe how many youngsters wanted to join us). My favorite was- who lived on the yellow submarine?. After a bit of banter we would confirm that he wanted to join us then we would have an initiation game. After the game we would have a naming ceremony. Part of the deal with joining us was you got a new name. Now you always could help out and help chose your own name or you could take one from the thousands that would get thrown at you, LOL. This part was riot. Any one that took part in those, pre-bcom, would tell you how much we would all laugh at the suggestions. After deciding on a name, we would have you go out and come back into the room with your new Nick. We would then woop it up and take the whole party to the main game lobby where we would take over and honor our new member. It was more fun that anything I have written here. Later on we all started using voice communication programs for playing and while it brought a new dimension to the game it took away some from our initiation process, IMO. Sorry for going so long.
Peace
Ginko

DerangedLunaTech... don't sweat the light stuff. You see, we are in fact, old men. We barely agree about the fact that we are old let alone anything of significance.
Be that as it may, we have a very health respect for each other that allows us, for the most part, to be able to have these kinds of conversations.
Stick around. If you can handle this kind of bickering back and forth then you should be able to fit right in. And for the record... we really don't bicker that much... it is just that we all have opinions and you know what they say about that "opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one and they all stink" (Oh, I have to say this before Aged... except mine of course) |

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 11:26:47 Gentlemen,
I would like to apologize for any problems I may have caused.
It was in no way my intention to either imply acceptance into this group, nor to circumvent any traditions, as I know how important they can be. Any trangressions I have comitted, real or perceived, were strictly from unfamiliarity, not anything else.
I have created a new accuont (this one) using one of my regular online personnas. I would like the opportunity to get to know this group, and play some games with some folks that have some similar points of view on gaming as I do.
If I can be forgive, I would like to continue on here. If I have caused too much discontentment, then please feel free to let me know and I will remove myself gracefully, as I wish to cause no further problems.
Once again, my most sincere apologies.
- ex-BrokenHip

Posted - Apr 27 2003 : 11:24:41 Actually, I was feeling pretty "Lude"-ey when I wrote it. Thus the disclaimer at the end, "That is, unless I've missed something...." Apparently I missed plenty. Comes from having not enough time and too many opinions.
I've got No problems with No-thing. I'll go back to plotting my return now. Sorry for the interuption.
