Posted - Oct 01 2008 : 12:14:09 I am running the same poll at BCO and wanted to see if OMO's are looking at these games?
Call of Duty: World at War
 http://pc.ign.com/objects/142/14222042.html
Or
Far Cry 2
 http://pc.ign.com/objects/951/951257.html
These seem to be the big titles this fall for FPS's this year. Both seem to have more "BF" type play than earlier titles, but still not all out "combined arms". With BF on it's last legs, and EA seemingly wanting to kill it off with the server issues last week, these new titles hold big promise.
So, question is, are you planning on buying? |

Posted - Oct 19 2008 : 11:30:56 I have stopped all of them.
AOC is the best of the bunch, but I think they FUBAR'ed it by not putting in a better PvP system earlier. It has great potential but for now I don't wish to get back into it.
As for War, I hated the demo. It was as bad as LoTR (IMHO) and only offered the RvR as a neat feature. Otherwise it's just not a good game I think.
WoW is WoW and will be tempting to re join when things are slow in the gaming world, but right now there is just too many good games out or coming out. Right now I play a little Spore, a little of the BF2 mods (hate vanilla now) and COD4 (ACE mod mostly, but some paintball too). FarCry 2 is out Tuesday and that will be the game that takes all my time until COD5 is out next month. Then it will be back and forth between them. |

Posted - Oct 17 2008 : 16:21:31 Speaking of which, I'm back to playing WoW again.
I liked World in Conflict, but didn't find much interest in playing among people I knew. TF2 is cool, but I suck at it.
Other than that, I'm just farming gold in WoW until the expansion comes out.
Warhammer, didn't do it for me. |

Posted - Oct 17 2008 : 15:58:03 Yeah, the DL services like Steam, D2D, EA, etc are good and bad. Good are the reasons KJ mentioned, but the bad things are the size of the DL's now a days. I mean dang, who has the time to DL a 4 - 15 gig game? Patching is also a good and bad thing, as with traditional games and the subsequent patches, you can just back the patches up somewhere and then not have to DL them again. When I got back into WoW it was a long painful update process, as I was letting WoW do the auto updates before, so I had no backups. |

Posted - Oct 17 2008 : 15:54:24 Kayjay, I agree with you 100% about Steam. I had not made a Steam purchase until recently... here's why I took the chance. I purchased HL2 and had to install the Steam client by default for auth. Well many years later (after having built a number of different machines) I was considering trying a digital download of Assassin's Creed. I reviewed all the different options and Steam was the most user friendly. You only need to connect to the internet once really for auth and hardly ever for actual play (which is not the case with D2D or the others). As I was doing research I reinstalled the steam client... WOW!!! All my previously purchased games were listed in an account I hadn't used in over 3 yrs (prolly more like 5). Every single game. Furthermore... all I had to do was reinstall them FROM STEAM! I didn't have to dig up my old CDs... I never would have to have a CD / DVD in my drive again! Totally rocks! So far this year I've purchased 5 games off Steam and every one has been perfect. What used to be a Steamy pile of crap... has turned into my recommended Digital Store. Impulse (Stardock) being a close second primarily for their gamer's rights and no DRM.
My latest purchase was X3: Terran Conflict which was released 10/16. I had the preload the first of the week and played the game as soon as it was released... no long downloads or installs... it was all ready complete... no going to the store... waiting in line... finding that the shipment didn't come in... finding out that your carrier doesn't deliver to your address on said date... just simply click on the icon and play! Great stuff! |

Posted - Oct 17 2008 : 14:25:55 I don't know. buying games off of steam is cool cause I can download it as many times as I want and don't have to keep the disc on me when I go over to a friend's house. Not to mention that you don't need to download the updates cause it does it for you.
As for Warhammer ( http://www.warhammeronline.com/ ), I'll probably try it out if there's a free trial. |

for any game, and from now on especially an ea game, i'm buying the disc . . . |

Seems to work well. I downloaded Warhead and few other games with no problems. I also pre-ordered FC2 from steam. I seriously doubt my local wal-mart (20 miles away) will have it on release day.
Still a little bit of pain to have steam start up every time you want to play a "steam" game though.
I like the fact you can backup your downloaded games to a hard drive. This way you don't have re-download the game if you move it to a different computer or do a fresh OS reinstall. |

Posted - Oct 11 2008 : 19:08:36 I'm still working through it for the first time. The Witcher Enhanced Edition has been eating up some of my free time. A very interesting story in it. |
