Poll Question:
I am running the same poll at BCO and wanted to see if OMO's are looking at these games?
Call of Duty: World at War
 http://pc.ign.com/objects/142/14222042.html
Or
Far Cry 2
 http://pc.ign.com/objects/951/951257.html
These seem to be the big titles this fall for FPS's this year. Both seem to have more "BF" type play than earlier titles, but still not all out "combined arms". With BF on it's last legs, and EA seemingly wanting to kill it off with the server issues last week, these new titles hold big promise.
So, question is, are you planning on buying?

I will answer my own question first I guess.
Both. I have both on pre order from Gamestop.
Far Cry 2 comes out in 3 weeks, and after watching the videos on gameplay (including Multiplayer) and the map editor, I am jonesing to get this one. ;)
COD5 World at War comes out in Nov. and looks to be even better than COD4. Tanks added (yes you can use the tanks) and flamethrowers too. :D
BTW, this is some good info on FC2 and how it's actually going to run well on older systems, as well as will be using Quad Core optimization! Woot. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,661894/Far_Cry_2_Hardware_nerdsundrsquo_gaming_experience/

5.25", you know, the new ones! FTW!
the original Far Cry was a b, bear to run. it was like Crysis in that the sys req.'s were steep. also like it in that it was gorgeous, and cutting edge gameplay (first one that i played in SP where the AI seemed to adapt to you). i held off on Warhead to get FC2 - i haven't heard any reviews of Crysis: Warhead yet from the regulars . . .

From the reviews I have seen, Warhead is a good bargain game. In fact, most say for $30, it's amazing they made it a standalone and not an expansion that you needed Crysis for. I also noticed that some complained that the shaders were a big backward step in detail, but it did speed things up a bit. I guess server ping is a HUGE deal with Warhead and if you don't have great ping, you will get tons of rubber banding and general jerky feel. Personally I am not a fan of the Nano Suit and the having to buy your weapon load out at each spawn. If it were not for that, I would have bought it.
Now, great news about Far Cry 2 is it does NOT use the Crytek engine, but rather the Dunia engine. Dunia has day night cycle (1 to 4 ratio), real time weather (i.e. wind blows as storm approaches, rain and clouds are always dynamic and different, fire propagation, and all real world damage (not just certain trees) and even vegetation growth cycles are possible. Apparently the other great thing about the Dunia engine is it's ability to adapt shaders dependent on the PC's power (i.e. it will still run well on decent settings for slower PCs).
Very cool stuff and from all the stuff I have found about the engine, it looks like the most powerful game engine ever. Real time damage on body parts (i.e. you get shot in the leg and it causes realistic wounds and side effects). Vehicle persistent damage dependent on enviornment (i.e. car will have electrical damage if it gets submerged in water). We will have to see how it actually turns out (Crytek was suppose to be great too, but it ran like crap on may machines).

They both look great. But, I recall MP for FarCry so I would be more inclined to believe MP for CoD5 will be a kicker.

Yeah, I know what your saying there about MP on the original FarCry. I hold out high hopes for this one though, as the clips I have seen of the MP at game conferences looks good.

To me it seems they are pumping out these killer titles out a little too fast. and in '07 there was practically nothing until the end of the year. Now there's these two and also Battlefield heroes and Fallout 3.
At least the good thing about BFH, it will be free unless you want upgrades. sort of like Torque.

They both look great and I loved FarCry in single player mode [multi sucked]. As to COD5 I just have to wonder how long it will keep interest as COD4 was high on our list but as a tewm who plays it now?

Part of the reason for posting this poll here is to get a feel for what OMO's are thinking about these titles. We (BCO) are going to try to get behind one or both these titles and get a server if it makes since. I figure between OMO and BCO, we should be able to rally enough support for at least one of these titles, but we shall see.

Well, we could sponsor one server, while BCO sponsor another server. Personally, I think CoD5 might be a good way to go for the OMO. I am pretty sure I will get Far Cry 2 and if others get into it, CoD5.

Either way, I hope one of these games brings us together like CoD4 did last winter/spring. Good times.
