Posted - May 23 2006 : 09:08:01 I guess we will go through the usual transition period. Here's a supposed change log.
Changelog ================================================================================ Battlefield 2™: V1.3 ReadMe File April 25, 2006 ================================================================================
================================================================================ Patch v1.3 ================================================================================
NEW FEATURES
- Air dropped vehicles: Squad members can now send a request up the chain of command for a vehicle to be dropped at their location.
- Co-op: Co-op Mode allows you to play Single Player levels on the Internet and LAN with both AI controlled bots and human players. Several new options have been created that will allow the server creator to modify how the bots behave in game.
Number of Bots: This setting allows you to determine the total number of bots that will spawn in game.
Bot Ratio: This setting allows you to determine the percentage of total bots that will spawn for each team. For example, setting this value to 25 means that 25% of the total bots will spawn in Team 1, and 75% in Team 2. Team 1 is always the MEC, Chinese, or their allies, while Team 2 is always the USA, EU, and their allies.
Bot Difficulty: This setting determines the skill level of the bots. 10 is easiest, 100 is the most difficult.
- Default Kit Selection: The kit that you used last is remembered at the beginning of the round and between maps.

Posted - May 26 2006 : 11:04:06 I believe BCO Fox tried this yesterday, and it worked! Have to get it just right. I had a ton of the enemies vehicles landing on me yesterday when capping a flag in a tank. Did little to no damage, but was annoying as heck! |

Posted - May 25 2006 : 16:56:20 I did notice that it was already smoking which meant that it was at least halfway damaged. But if you keep dropping your cars on top of the arty it will eventually explode.
HAHAH!! Today was pretty awesome. I was sniping and the commander on the other team tried to drop a car on my head. What did I do? I held E and I entered the vehicle! So now when I am capping a flag I will hold down E and all will be well. |

Posted - May 25 2006 : 10:58:01 notice that the arty was already smoking, so it was severely damaged.
Still, you could smack down any crate that was dropped to repair something.
Hey....heres an idea for the next patch. Make it so that a vehicle can't be dropped unless its within a certain distance of a teammate.

Posted - May 24 2006 : 17:02:12 Hey Cack,
Yes that 2MC commander was excellent. He kept a few of us busy hunting down anyone who tried to sneak behind our lines. I've rarely seen a commander on the non-OMO side do that. Usually the non-OMO side is in disarray and has a commander who tosses out a UAV once in awhile.

Posted - May 24 2006 : 16:34:28 I will give it a try again tonight after watching the season finale of Lost. In hindsight and after having a few hours to contemplate what transpired last night, I have come to the conclusion that it was mostly the 2MC guys hunting me down. Their commander was really good at spotting ninjas such as myself. His arty strikes seemed to kill at least 3 or 4 of our teammates each time.
I was too preoccupied being a medic and keeping myself alive instead of being the Master of C4 and pwning those armoured vehicles that were hunting me down on the other side of the river. But when I did start owning the armour they had ground troops supporting the armour so I had little chance against 3 or 4 guys chucking grenades at me and an APC causing splash damage everywhere. I was just frustrated that anything I did was quickly erased a few seconds later.
As you said, those 2MC guys were world class BF2 players. And it showed. |

Posted - May 24 2006 : 10:51:07 Also, you need to squad with an SL who will be a bit more disciplined and not put themselves in the frontline all the time. Kit selection will be important as it overemphasizes medics, leaving squads more vulnerable to vehicles. I could see a squad of ground troops back by a squad of vehicles running over flags like there was no tomorrow.
BTW, the vehicle drop is an awesome way of covering ground while a commander is waiting for a radar to come back online. They may track a squad on foot, but will lose sight for a while. You can be on the other side of the map by the time the radar comes up. The key is finding a commander who will support the squads with drops vs. having fun killing fools. |

Posted - May 24 2006 : 10:31:45 Cack, I feel your pain. It took me awhile after playing on a few servers to figure out what was going on. Kept trying to join squads to help cap flags, but nothing happened. Figured it out, but kept forgetting to join squads when alive. I think the solution for guys like you, Cadaver and me is to have a lone wolf squad that has a similar style of play (relentless flag capture, constantly in motion, opportunistic killers and squad hunters). I think the intensity of the rounds (like an unorganized scrim) last night put people in a FFA mode where it was less about squads and more about running around trying to stay alive and find ways of capturing flags/scoring points. I am sure all had great intentions, stable organized squads are the future for winning.
I have finally changed my mind and come to the conclusion that the change is probably better for the game and will encourage better teamplay. As I said in the past, it will slow the game down, but the better squads (skills and tactics) will dominate the average squads/players. The only problem I see is that everyone on the server wants to be a SL to call for jeeps, supplies or UAVs without thinking about running a squad. I found a few servers where all the squads were taken, with many or most being led by lone wolves. |

Posted - May 24 2006 : 07:04:13 I did stick with a squad and got demolished most of the time. Normally I would just spawn on someone else and continue on and kill another 5 to 7 guys before dying. Now my pwning is limited to around the CP's as my squad leader kept dying or I was the squad leader and my teammates kept giving away my position by firing immediately after spawning.
It was also extremely extremely boring just sitting around and having people spawn off of me. I don't like the gameplay anymore. Used to be fast paced. Now I guess I will stick with vehicles because ground pounding isn't as fun anymore.
It probably had more to do with the 2MC clan where they shut me down almost everytime. That and the constant team swiching that the server was pulling on me even though I was a squad leader. I broke free about 7 times across the river but no one would support me. It seemed that I was better off lone wolfing than squading up sometimes. I hate changing up my style of gameplay every few months.
Wake was a pain as USMC and a bore when on the Chinese side. I guess the thing we could do is not let anyone spawn in except the blackhawk pilot and then have everyone spawn in on him when he is flying up high. You can spawn in on a squad leader when you first join in the game. But again this is stupid you shouldn't have to resort to these workarounds.
Hopefully tonight will be a better night.
Yeah Older, I had fun dropping jeeps on people's heads too! Especially when the parachute catches on something and the car drops and explodes! Anywhere with cranes like Gulf of Oman at the construction site or the many cranes at Kubra Dam... think of the possibilities.
If running with a knife makes you run faster that would be a bonus. |

Posted - May 24 2006 : 05:19:52 Hey Cack: Maybe you could run with a knife to those places, I hear you can run faster! |

Posted - May 24 2006 : 00:17:50 I had some fun tonight dropping jeeps on snipers, commanders and other stationary targets. One time, I dropped a jeep on the crane behind factory at Karkand. It didn't hit, but stay up there where he was sniping. He decided to go under the jeep for cover. When I dropped the next jeep, the first one exploded and killed the sniper. I dropped another one on a commander at the tow at factory. It hit the roof above and sommersaulted landing at an angle on the ground and the ledge. It exploded a little later and took out the commander. I also used a jeep to kill a sniper on the roof at Cement Factory. On a different map, landed one on a plane about to take off and got it smoking. You can drop jeeps in front of planes on the runway when you see someone getting in. Most don't think to reverse and just plow into the plane killing themselves.
OK, I know it was smacktard moves, but I couldn't resist. Besides, our team was on autopilot and didn't need much help from me. |

Posted - May 23 2006 : 23:30:05 I have to agree with Festus..its not that bad of a change really..you just have to have someone in the squad take charge and try to stay alive..It helps to be a medic, so a squad mate can revive you with your pack if it comes to that..this patch really makes you play more like a squad is suppose to..
I dont liek the Dropping jeep crap..I had some Arse kept dropping them on my tank when fighting other tanks..Its just stupid in my opinion..It should be limited more than to every 30 seconds. |
