....ok, I have windows vista. I have about 25 icons on my desktop. You can automatically set up the icons on the left right center top bottom, etc. You can also list them by name, type, etc. I have about 10 of them I want to move to the right which are business related. I can move them over there and they will stay until I do an update or sometimes during a reboot, they end up all on the same side again in the default setting.
Is there a way to move the icons where you want them in the order you want them and for them to stay there?
In the scheme of things, this is a minor irritations, however, I get tired of moving them around all the time..

Can you right click on your desktop and select the icons then lock them somehow? (Similar to what you can do with XP.)

Right click, and UNSELECT "auto-arrange" and/or "align to grid".

That should fix it, BUT on occasion, such as a crash, the system seems to default to those settings and you might need to do that "house-keeping" thing again.

hmm...I don't have auto arrange selected. And. my only options is sort by Name Type Size and Date Modified. I played around with the "View" but they just popped back into their place. Not where I want them.

I was hoping not to have to resort to this fix, but here it is: buy a Mac.

Heart, is your home directory located in a different partition or drive? Do you have any other users for that computer?
