Don't what happened but I lost internet access, email access, games didn't work, the whole nine yards.

tried the system restore but it said my Steam backup files files were corrupt or something. It would not restore even back to previous months.

I've been getting a blue screen as of late regarding an "APC_INDEX_MISMATCH"
From googling it had to do with drivers but I could not isolate it.

Anyways I've reformatted and hope to be back on the battlefield this weekend.

Major bummer. If it was a bad spot on disk your reformtting mapped it out! Why your Steam backups are corrupt is worrisome!

Spec, I have to say, I downloaded steam about 30 days ago and got the BC2 Beta, then ultimatley the game itself. Ever since I have had major problems with my computer. Mind you I have a monster of a machine i7 with all the bells and whistles and there are times, for no reason everything slows way down (Not while in game)so bad that when I click to open a file it might take 3 mins. Like you I have gone back and forth with the restore points. It even got so bad I called Verizon Fios and they spent an hour and a half with me trying to figure out the issues which including connecting to the internet. At the point where we were about to give up and wipe the drive clean and reload, IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I was shocked, she was shocked (she was looking at my screen with that citrix program) And, ever since, I am not having any issues. I run Vista. So, I'm really thinking there is something going on with steam.

So, my question is for all you steam guys. Is there a way to take the game off steam and go direct without having to go into steam to launch the game.?

Nope. It happens to be a point for Steam to not allow this. Without buying a new stand-alone copy, I don't know what to say.

I had a major problem with Win 7 earlier also, It started slowing down and locking up and started locking me out of files even thou I was running as Admin. I traced some of it back to a conflick with Logitech mx 18 mouse and their drivers [even though the drivers were suspose to be Win 7]. Finally got tired of fighting it did a complete reinstall and have had no problems since.

Got most of everything reinstalled last night and for the most part it is a lot faster. The USB ports are screaming fast compared to before.

I backed up my pics before formatting, took about 20m to put 3+gigs on a stick. Time to transfer back was about 1m or so. I'm thinking the earlier drivers for the MB were not completely compatible with Win 7 64. All my drivers now (including SoundBlaster) have been released this year.

I'm hoping that fixed it.

**edit**
I just updated my bios from F3 to F8. .... crossing fingers

A few months ago my comp slowed down. But it was because the hard drive was dying.

Same here Petri. So far thats been my only problem. I just switched hard drives. Other than that one problem my 3 comps with Win 7 have been trouble free.

Well so far everything is running great. I even flashed the firmware on my mouse.

As far as I can tell, it might have been a bad sector in the HD or poor support for W7 64 driver wise.

It appears that there are a lot more win 64 bit drivers out there now.
