This has been my latest addiction.
Truth be told, it's not RTS - it's turn based. Usually I hate turn based, but this kind of different. Turns happen simultaneously (i.e., each turn consists of actions by all players. Thus far, I've only played against the AI, but there is MP.
Endless Space 2 is a 4X game like Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis. It's maybe the most complex game I've ever played and it has taken me a while to get comfortable with it, but now that I've figured a lot of it out, I'm hooked.
You start as one of a number (let's say 8) different races - all with their own unique attributes. These attributes are important, but I've found so far that how you invest your production capability is more important to success.
It's also currently on sale on Steam.
I highly recommended if you like grand strategy.
