A new virus has been detected on the Internet. The name of the virus is SOBIG. The virus arrives through email with one of the following Subject lines, Attachment names, and Message Bodies: -
Subject: Attachment: Body: Your details, your_document.pif, See the attached file for details Thank you!, document_all.pif, Please see the attached file for details Re: Thank you!, thank_you.pif Re: Details , your_details.pif Re: Re: My details , details.pif Re: Approved , document_9446.pif Re: Your application , application.pif Re: Wicked screensaver wicked_scr.scr Re: That movie movie0045.pif -
The email will appear to come from someone you know, but in reality, the email sender name has been spoofed by the virus. Thus, if someone informs you that you have sent them an infected email, you can let them know that it did not really come from you. We do not allow file attachments with .PIF or .SCR file extensions through our email system, thus users are safe from getting the virus through email. If you do receive one of these emails, you will see a file attachment titled "alert.txt." The alert.txt file is just informing you that the infected file attachment was detected and removed by our mail system. We are also in the process of updating our anti-virus files just released by our anti-virus software vendor.
