It is important to know what squad weapon upgrades to use vs what kinds of units. This is for Space Marine and Chaos. For those who have played Homeworld Ill use those units to describe the role of each weapon.

Flamer - Salvage Vett
Heavy Bolter - Multigun Vett
Plasma Gun - Heavy Vett
Missile Launcher - Bomber

Flamers wont steal units but it will dissable them. It does hardly any damage but will quickly break squads. Once broken a squad is only useful at absorbing damage.

Heavy Bolters are for killing large ammounts of infantry. Also because of their extended range they can be used to shoot at turrets and upgraded listening posts from outside their range. It is important to note that there are two classes of infantry I will describe below.

Plasma Guns are for killing heavy infantry. They also have no setup time unlike heavy bolters and missile launchers. You can move and fire with them. This is especialy useful for fighting very heavy melee units like the seer council and possesed chaos marines. You can still shoot while microing to stay out of melee.

Missile Launcher are mainly for anti-vehicle and buildings. They are great for killing turrets and listening posts from long range. Enough of them (12 or so) will take down most vehicles in a few shots. They wont do a lot of damage to infantry but they will knock down infantry targets. This is useful for keeping leaders and other special units at bay while the rest of the squad kills them with bolters.

It is important to note the differnce between infantry and heavy infantry. Here is a general idea of which units fit each class.

Infantry - Most Eldar units, Most Ork units, Scouts and Cultists.

Heavy Infantry - Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines.

There are some special units that I pesonaly consider Extra Heavy Infantry. These are the units I would make sure I have some Plasma guns or Flamers to deal with. Even tho Heavy Bolters are suposed to be just for infantry but they do a good job of taking down regular marines even though they are classified as heavy infantry.

Extra Heavy Infantry - Seer Council, Possessed Spaces Marines, Terminators and Nob Squads.

Neat Stuff, Bugger!

With my birthday and the holidays coming up -I've wondering if this was THE next game. It sure sounds neat. How is the multi-player? Enough players?

Almost another year older,

E

Yea, this seems like the next big game. Over 500 ppl have been on during the last few days and because they left out a ton from the existing universe, I imagine we are going to see a lot of juicy addons/expansions for this. I was up to 4am playing on Friday night, so it's very addictive. To me, seems like a cross between SC, WC3 and ground control all mixed together, only better. WC3 has too much micro, but this has just enough, for example. Sweet, sweet game. Thanks for the post, OB - it helps.

It has a lot of players. Its prob the most popular RTS out right now. I have no problem finding games at any hour. Even at the lowest population there is still over 100 players in all the lobbies combined.

My birthday was last night and I got it.

Woot!

Seems very different. I keep wishing I could pull the camera back just a little bit more but I think they're trying to keep it to around line of site. Nice graphics too.

Likin' it!
