I have my ventrilo server back up. The IP is ventrilo.oldmenonline.net . You can get the client side software here -> www.texturae.net/ventrilo-2.1.4-Windows-i386.exe

IP = ventrilo.oldmenonline.net

If you don't find a bunch of OMO's on TS they might be on Vent.

Peace

Ginko

I know... But why are we not running the new version of the server??? It's not like it costs money to upgrade.

Well, after reading the documentation, I would have to veto the Ventrilo server. Either 8 connections, or the crap they want you to do for the Pro version... BS!!!

PS... I still have all the BattleCom installs. ;)

On the matter of sound, regardless of the platform we use, there are always users with incorrect mic levels that invariably produce loud 'mush'. I think this could be easily remedied if we took the time to inform each other of the audio quality we each are responsible for so that corrections might be made.

Which ever platform you guys decide on is fine with me. Lets just decide on one so we don't have to search around each night to find out who's on what.

I'm for Ventrilo as long as Ginko doesn't have any problems with it. And I agree, if my output is way too loud please let me know. I keep the volume up pretty loud so I can hear people and things moving around me. If your voice blast in I'm going to request you turn down the output. This is adjustable in Ventrilo more so than TS. Bloody was even nice enough to turn his down when I was on his server, after KayJay agreed with me it was really loud.
I'm not going to turn the game sounds down cus it's invaluable to be able to hear the vehicles and people sneaking up to knife you. I have stereo headphones and can usually tell the directions something is. I wont give that up but will turn off TS/Vent if someone is overpowering. The only disadvantage is you can't hear too well when in a helo or tank. I'm as guilty as any for talking too much in the early days but it was just because the game is so frustrating figuring why certain things happen. I've cut back and try to keep it to where someone is hiding or sneaking up on my squad.

TS2 and in game VoIP sounds good to me. I won't have to install another program that way.

Has anyone actually ever been able to determine if Vebt actually does use less bandwidth. For me I can go either way. I like some of the thinks on vent, like the system announcing who has just logged on, and I think the sound quality is better. I have both, when I play with OTH I use vent and I use TS with OMO. On Vent I don't seem to get the level of background noise I seem to have with TS. Noseys taterchip munching sounds better on vent though.

I was on vent again last night, as were the other BF2 soldiers. The fact still persists, that volume doesn't mean clarity. There were at least a couple of guys with settings producing serious 'clipping' and others who were relatively quiet were much more easily understood when the 'mush' abated. I know Cathy told me I was too loud... (but he would say that anyway)
We should set aside a few minutes to optimise sound for each other. This cant be done when we're in the middle of a game.
