Some of you on Ventrilo were wondering why you didn't get promoted after patching with high scores, while some of us low scorers got 2 or more unlocks. To get to the higher ranks you not only need score but badges.
Yes ... now we DO need steenkin' badges!

Don't know about that Blue, I've done the compare with a few others that have been promoted and even though I have more badges, medals and points I'm still not getting promoted. BFHQ shows 100% for next rank.

Bluehair what you posted is fact but the guys that were not promoted have enough to get at least 2 promotions, cus like Petrified said it doesn't effect anyone until you get to First sergeant. Dementia is the only one on the OMOs that have a score that high. I will get Master Sergeant shortly. I now have 16000 pts. The next after that is the only one up to that, that requires any badges. Since I can't seem to get the Knife, pistol, Sniper, Demolition but have all the rest I doubt I'll ever get First Sergeant. But then who knows? I haven't tried too hard because I was trying to get my K/D ratio up. To get the knife you have to die a lot I expect although I have a .54 k/d with a knife so far. 7 kills, 13 deaths. You have to have 7 kills in one round to get the award. I guess I'll be doing the Kamikase thing with the knife a lot now.

I hopped on yesterday at lunch and played a few rounds on different servers. Seems like I got my promotions on each of the servers. I think the "back-end" was behind. I tried logging out and then back in just before shutting down, and I still didn't have the promotions in BFHQ. When I got home from work and logged in, I got the promotions.

I noticed that once BFHQ had me at 100% you do not get promted (lower levels) until you score a kill on a ranked server. I then received an in game notification or Rank increase.
With the new patch and being at about 3600 points I ended up getting two promotions within minutes.

No go for me. Since the OMO server was not updated last night, I was playing on other ranked servers (btw, the filters do not work right) and I had many kills without a promotion. I do not think kills has anything to do with being promoted in this case. I should be a Sergeant at least.

I'm thinking the EA database is backed up. You will not get any promotion until you get the ingame notification and then at the end of the round, you must shut down BF2, wait a minute or 2 and then start it back up. It should play the drums and verify you have been promoted and tell you how many unlocks you have.
It wasn't working for me either for about 3 rounds and then I went from that server to another and got 2 promotions. Unlocked my weapons and started another round. During this round I got another promotion and unlocked another weapon. Just be patient. All should be good by today. And yes our server is now patched.

Points do not have to come from a Kill as org. thought.
From the Readme for the 1.03 Patch.
GAMEPLAY CHANGES
- Many criteria for ranks and awards have changed. If you are immediately
eligible for a new promotion, unlock, badge, award, or ribbon, it will
be awarded the next time you receive points on a ranked server.

I got my promotions but it still shows up same as ever in the stats page so I still cant unlock any weapons. I know, patience!!

After you get your ingame notification Fuddy you have to play another round and earn some points. Not sure how many. Then when you close BF2 and restart it, it goes to the BFHQ page to get your unlocks. You'll probably get them tonight when you enter. I would think the database is up-to-date by now, but who knows.

Actually, I played awhile on the OMO server last night, was promoted several times and after a few rounds disconnected, went to the BFHQ and was able to unlock. So... keep trying.

I passed up on unlocking ("unlock later" or something like that).
When you do that you have to exit the game and when you come back and go into BFHQ it will offer you the unlocks.
I got 2 last night by making sargent up from lance corporal. I chose the sniper rifle upgrade and the support weapon upgrade. Most of the others just don't seem like much of an upgrade.

BADGES!! WE DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' BADGES!! Sorry, couldn't resist. It does appear that some of the ranks need badges to acheive them but, for the most part, they're generally not that hard to get. I understand you guys have an initiation using pistol, knives and defibulators so getting the badges for pistols and knives shouldn't be too hard for you.

I have Master Sergeant coming up but I doubt I'll get First Sergeant cus you have to have all your basic badges, including; Knife, Pistol, Sniper. I got my Pistol last night but the other 2 seem to allude me. I haven't really tried too hard but I did try 2-3 rounds as sniper and the best I did was 6 kills.
What about you new guys that have been sniping almost all the time? Have you got your sniper basic combat?
Dementia you have all you basic badges so your next promotion will be at 50,000 pts. Master Gunnery Sergeant.
Sure wish bf2tracker would get back up. I'm a stat junky :(

Do your sniper duty on a city map. Mashtur City, Sharqi Peninsula, or Strike at Karkand.
Dragon Valley and FuShe Pass can work too if shoot outs over flags start up.
Maybe we should have a badge night where we shrink the map and have higher tickets to give people time to complete the requirements. I picked up the support badge last night and only have the medic badge among the kit types. Don't expect to EVER get knife or pistol. Maybe pistol, but I'll be killed 30 times to get 10 kills.
