Ok..i'm coming to the only guys I trust on BF2 to not cheat or stat pad.
Was at Karkand the other night fighting a really high ranking 32 on 32. I was at the bottom of the stairs and I saw a guy off in the distance...really far. He was shooting to my left with some assault rifle. I was using my assault unlock (G3..supposed to be really accurate). I went prone...lined up...and hit him on my first shot...saw his body jerk. He turned...so i started laying out rounds in single taps and doubles. Missed missed missed missed. As soon as he found me, one shot. Dead. No sniper either. I ended up playing 2 rounds....5 deaths, 8 deaths, 0 kills, 0 kills. I've been playing shooters for years...there has to be something I'm doing wrong.
I run a pretty powerful machine for an amateru computer builder.
AMD XP 3200 (512 L2 cache) Gigabye GA-7N400 Pro2 (rev 2) 800mhz fsb 2 x 512mb Kinston PC3200 RAM Sapphire Radeon x800 Pro 256mb (AGP) SATA RAID 0 (2 x 80gb 7200rpm hd) Creative 4.1 Digital Auido (PCI) 6 case fans, VGA Fan (PCI slot), Thermaltake Volano for CPU, 350W PSU.
I'm currently running in 1024 x 768 with most Vid settins on med or high. 100% distance. Optical mouse. Why can't I hit these guys who one-shot me all the time?
I'm going to boost up to 1600 x 1200 and up some of my settings tonight.
Any advice, recommendations (other than upping to an Athlon 64 and 1gb FSB mobo...on the way)?
Would love to hear any tips or tricks from the heavy hitters.
Thanks guys!

Some say its a better mouse you need.
Razor Boomslang, or Logitech MX500 ( I think), are very accurate due to their ability to change sensitivity on the fly.
Just a thought....

I set my vid to all medium and 1024x768 and am thinking of going 800x600 to make the targets bigger as well as the name tags.(Nvidia 6800/256Mb) It looks prettier at high rez with all the bells and whistles, but everything is so damn tiny and it takes teh nametags longer to show, so that brings up TK issues or deaths waiting to make sure.
Get another Gig of RAM... I went to 2 Gigs of PC4200 and wow what a difference.

Hmm... I used that guide to set up my settings, and here they are.
P4 2.8 2GB RAM GeForce 6800GT w/ 256 AGP
Display Mode: 1024x768 Overall Quality: Custom Terrain: Medium Effects: Medium Geometry: High Texture: Medium Lighting: Low (I'll explain this after all the settings.) Dynamic Shadows: Low Dynamic Light: Medium (or low) AA: Off (or 2x) Texture Filter: Medium View Distance: 100%
Ok, why the low on Lighting. Yes, it's slightly less realistic, but I know there are alot out there with hacks. Check out this set of screenies. http://www.tweakguides.com/images/BF2_8.jpg It may be a small advantage, but I'll take it.

SoCal, sometimes it makes me wonder if having a fast computer with a great graphics card set to the highest settings works in your favor. Many players have much lower spec machines set to 1024 x 768 with graphics settings on medium or low and they do real well as far as accuracy is concerned. Regardless of what mouse you use, if the cursor is over the target, you would expect repeatability based on the weapon of choice. A mouse with lots of techy features is no different from any other mouse when stationary, as it's position resolves to an x,y coordinate used to display the crosshairs.
As Bluehair stated, having everything set to max at high resolution sure looks pretty but I don't think it resolves to increased accuracy. I have a fairly high spec puter with 7800GTX graphics and if it were not for the fact that I like the nice graphics, the temptation to reduce the resolution and cut down on the shadows, lighting etc might be worth it to get a higher detection and hit rate. (easier to see someone when there's no shadows).
But Hey! I could be wrong

lol Thanks for all the feedback. I think you guys have a point. My lil bro (GreenMyriad) has to play on 1024x768 at med settings or lower, and his kill % is much better than mine. I'll never admit he's better than me!!!! I'm going to give that a shot. Should be able to fly at that res.
I like the techie mice cuz i love linking the crouch and prone to the side buttons.

I also bumped up my Ram from 1GB to 2GB today. With that I still have everything set to medium(Anti-Aliasing = 2x / View distance is 100). I have seen a marked improvement in the few games I have played but I like the idea of cutting down on the shadows.

Holy Crap! You guys are pretty smuckin' fart.
I set to 800x600 with all settings at Med or High (except lighting which I set to Low). Sooo much better. Still looks good, but increased accuracy of my hits by a ton. I have been averaging about 16-18 kills per round now. (Still dying twice as much though :P)
Thanks again for all the good advice. Maybe I'll be killing more of you soon! :D
