Hey any of you looking to upgrade right now, there are a couple newish cards out that are great.
AGP, 7800GS. If you have a good system (say something like a 754 based AMD 64 bit system) that has AGP, that is a good little card.
PCI-E, 6800GS. If you have a PCI-E based system, this little card is GREAT. Just built a system for my bro with one of these (can add second in SLI later) and the card rocks. Check out the specs, and for the price, WOW.
His system scores just under 4000 in 3DMark06, and I built it for just under $1,000!
Asus A8N SLI AMD 64bit 3700+ 4X512 Mb of Patriot Extreme DDR400 Evga 6800GS 256Mb card Sony DVD-RW Antec True Power 2 550W PS I had an old case, WD 80Gig drive, and floopy for him.

Nice Blody! The 7800 cards are still ay up there. It's good to know the 6800's are still respectable.

Hmmm... I guess it's time to download Catalyst 6.3! I got a framerate boost with the new patch to levels around pre-1.2 so I'm happy with that, but I am still having a choppy framerate especially on Daqing Oilfields and the other large Chinese maps.

After getting a decent connection for the first time in months, the game played so well (even tho I didn't), I'm almost afraid to change anything :D
But I'll probably upgrade to 6.3 today.

He he he. Ok someone verify the driver version and date for me. I just installed the 6.3 drivers and it says Version 8.231.0.0 date: 2/21/2006
I ran 3DMark06 before and after installing the new driver and all scores were identical. I think that's odd cus I've never ran it twice, before, and not got some veriation, without any hardware changes.

I think the date was the creation of the final candidate for release. The date wouldn't reflect the GA data as that would imply a code change after testing, which despite being minor, could be cause for testing again (sounds like an endless circle).

I thought that would be release date. Can someone verify the version? I'm not sure I actually got the update installed.

I installed 6.3 Saturday and all is fine with my system! I used their uninstaller first, then did the install of 6.3.

I think the 6.3 upgrade is much better that the 6.1-6.2 that seemed to be a backward step. maybe a marketing ploy?? A couple of new cards came out right after the 6.2.......

OK here's the latest after the 6.4 Drivers were installed. I'll take the results. Not sure why one went down.

Well, I came in late on this one guys but heres my setup..Biostar T-Force 939 mobo, 7800GTX vid, 2 gigs PC4000 DDR and of course watercooling and skillfull overclocking of my little 2.2 ghz 3500+ Venice core @ 2.726 ghz. 3D Mark 2006
3DMarks 4506 SM2.0 2078 SM3.0 2044 CPU 1053 Sweet for 1000.00 Wish I could just build everyone one just like it. But several parts were just lyin around and I used what I had. This comp was just an experiment with a few economy parts mixed with a couple of high end parts to see just how cheap performance could be had for. Ive proved to myself you cant buy that speed in a production machine for less than 1800.00
I think Ill try it again after I install my 148 Opteron chip in the place of the 3500+ Venice. the extra 512k on die should push my score up a little more and with its reputation for hitting 3 ghz. I just may get the big score....of course I have to tear into 2 perfectly fine running computers to do this but then I may get bored some afernoon or weekend....5000 marks would be too sweet.

Yea, I am CPU constrained at 3.4 ghz with no ability to overclock it. I am looking into some additional cooling, but I have maxed out everything else except for the MOBO and CPU. I have all my graphics dialed up high with a moderate overclock. I am going to move everything to performance and see if I can break 5000.

Added a couple of case fans (overheated a few times last night) and cranked up the card (still under the recommended overdrive setting). System is running much cooler.
3Dmark06 score 4958 (+44) SP2 score: 2192 (+42) SP3 score: 2578 (+14) CPU score: 1015 (+2)
Hopefully the fans will keep things running.

Back with the 6.5 driver update. This was the least gain for a driver so far, but it made the Control Center application run faster.
3Dmark06 score 4988 (+30) SP2 score: 2211 (+19) SP3 score: 2600 (+22) CPU score: 1014 (-1)
A gain is a gain...

Ok here are my latest 3DMark06:
3DMark 5296 SM2 2111 SM3 2344 CPU 1657
This is with ATI OD on and my processor not OCed
Older I get SM2 and SM3. What is SP2 and SP3? And how did you get 3 to jump up so high. At one point it went up about 90-100 pts.

typos. must have copiesd it incorrectly at one point and kept going with it. Great CPU score, that's where you are kicking my butt with your dual core dealeo. I OC'd my card (X1900XT) up to the X1900XTX specs, core speed (650MHz) and memory clock (1550MHz). The highest score might have had the core speed a touch higher. The card seems more sensitive to cranking up the memory clock speed. I noticed that my setting were wiped, so I am testing at 650 MHZ on the core and 1550MHz on the memory.
