Hi OMO - I have been having lots of fun on your server over the past few months. I would like to humbly request consideration for membership.

"Johnny Fairplay?" "Humble???"

In the past I have tried to keep my "Johnny Fairplay" gaming persona (less mature, brash, strong-willed, etc) separate from my real persona ( more mature, shy, quiet, reserved ). As a result, I know I have stepped on toes (mostly Older's) along the way, and for that I apologize. The main reason I haven't been on Vent is that I have been too chicken, but this week I finally took the plunge and so far it has been a good experience for me.

I know that membership is a process, so I will keep playing with y'all and keep coming onto Vent to let you get to know me. But I just wanted to state clearly that I am interested in joining.

By the way, I'm 38 and live in the Seattle WA area. I am married, have two daughters, and thus have no control over my own time, but I like to play BF2 whenever I get the chance.

Cheers,

-JF

It is funny how different you are on vent than what I was expecting. You haven't stepped on my toes any more than any other SMACKTARD! I bought into the gaming persona, but always wondered since you would actually apologize vs. the normal response from the kids. Having played the game a stupid number of hours (Catheter is getting close to me now), I have a pretty low tolerance for bad behavior. You may have experienced my frustration with trying to help manage a server full of smacktards while trying to actually have fun, but I don't hold anything against you. I think the biggest frustration was not being able to communicate with you other than chat.

Anyways, welcome to the process. You should be seeing several smart replies headed your way. One thing to note and consider, if you become an OMO, it will involve getting a new name. Unfortunately, this implies starting a new account. It's probably the only real sacrifice you would have to make, other than admitting you are an old guy. Think it over and make sure you are ok with it. I know you have been working on ranks and badges.

Kool, but your stats. You would have to start over. You have my vote if you choose to become an OMO. I'm sure the OMO's will pick a good name for you. Glad you got on Vent.

Hi JF, can't think of any 'smart replies' right now so I'll just welcome you to the 'process' of being an OMO. I don't play BF2 as much as the hardened veterans (the other OMO persons) you see on the server, however, I'll listen out for you next time I'm on vent.

OUCH! This really would be a sacrifice. Note, the account doesn't go away, but you would need a new one when playing with us. Besides, you have the potential to improve your stats even more...you know improve the K/D ratio on the planes

I have been aware of the name change / new account and (gulp) I'm okay with it. As it stands, I don't have much left to play for in the way of promotions/unlocks, and I don't have a ton of awards. So it would actually be kind of fun to go through it all again.

That's what I thought too Johnny.

Not only that, your K/D ratio improves because of all the mistakes in learning to play are washed away.

And yes those awards come faster with the help of your OMO pals. Especially ground pounding.

I have actually considered starting a new account as well. I don't think I will ever be able to overcome the learning curve stats that I had for the first few months. Until I got a joystick, I really tried to fly with a mouse/kb. Needless to say, I would take off, make a few turns and either get shot down or crash into a landmark. Helecopter was the same lift off and then die when attempting to shoot a target or crash into a building trying to hover. Then, it took about a month to get used to the stick, but it was a longer version of the previous scenario. I started to figure out how to dog fight, but crashing was my predominant way of dying. I didn't even know there was a bomber for a couple of months. By the time I got to be proficient in the planes, I had about 400 kills for 1000 deaths. Since then, I have been around an 7-8/1 between fighters and bombers. It took awhile in the chopper too. It wasn't until I started dualing with Fuddy before the server got going until I learned how to fly the thing. It took a long time to get that over 1:1 K/D due to all of the test pilot deaths. The same was true, but to a much less extent on the armor. I wasn't smart and went on a lot of suicide missions.

Alas, I can't go back now. I am too close to getting many of the high time commitment badges and medals... I am a slave to the metal.

Yeah, you'll have to give up using that unlocked bomber you fly around in all the time. It'll give us ground pounders a chance of survival with you in a less lethal bomber (like a cessna with hand grenades, would be my reccomendation).

Wait, he's not flying an unlocked bomber? They don't have those? Ah, crap. Well, at least he'll have to be on our side from now on and I'll only have to be killed 2-3 times per round by him instead of 6-10. [Recalls defending my flag with the enemy lined up in my sites and the sound of a jet incoming gives meu just enough time to know I'm not going to live long enough to get the kill and flag defended points for killing the commie bastard because another "friendly" bastard just done the whole lot of us in, good and bad, in a massive airstrike.]

I made him cry! I'm not sure he's OMO material after all.

well this is just peachy FP. We have a nice long and detailed process (random actually). There is a way that I have been granted to share with you regarding a "fast track" to OMO membership. If you are willing to post a nude photo of your wife, we can speed this thing up dramatically. We are not talking anything vulgar or pornographic. Just an artistic type photo, you understand.

and thanks for stoppin' in.
